"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 20, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cannabis Science, Inc. (OTCBB:CBIS), a pioneering US biotech company developing pharmaceutical cannabis products, notes with great sadness that a widely prescribed medication has been linked to both suicides and sudden death among veterans suffering from PTSD. Numerous veterans who have contacted Cannabis Science have confirmed these problems."

"Although not approved for PTSD, Pentagon purchases of Seroquel nearly doubled between 2003 and 2007. Elspeth Ritchie, medical director of the Army's Strategic Communications Office, told the Denver Post the drug is "increasingly utilized as an adjunct for PTSD." Seroquel had almost $5 billion in sales last year."

Dr. Robert Melamede, PhD., Cannabis Science President and CEO, noted, "Of course, after more than 5,000 years of use, cannabis has not been shown to have caused a single death, and it is now widely -- but illegally -- used by veterans and others with PTSD as we have reported. It is shameful that those who deserve the best treatment available are being denied access to cannabis while they are given a cocktail of powerful drugs that seems to be killing them."

thats alot of bull, my neighbors are both vets one is from Nam the other from Korea they both have ptsd and both smoke and I can honestly say for them it helps ! its just a fact drugs including cannabis effect people in different ways . It doesn't mean it should not be used for the people that it helps. so if 100 people all smoke cannabis and 2 of those people have a mental break down from there ptsd and they commit suicide for the other 98 people that it helps with there problems get fucked over? If you cant handle it don't do it, you know.

Read the article. The suicides are being blamed on Seroquel and other FDA approved drugs not cannabis.

Thanks, lubda nugs :) This is exactly the point of the original thread.

@gooshpoo :)
I thank your neighbors for their service to our great country.

Be forewarned rant ahead...
I am more than a little pissed off, sometimes, how our country treats our men & women in uniform. I was on a project with the Department of Defense & saw first hand the destructive power of opiates on our wounded coming home from battle all because of a radical, hypocritical & hateful view of cannabis. Our country has known for many years the benefits of cannabis for nerve damage instead no one is courageous enough to do something about this. Instead, some in public office & law enforncement stick to party lines, propaganda, religious beliefs or whatever instead of making available the medicine to stop the pain & suffering of service personal.
