Just talking about the little foam plugs for the pods?
I've just gone to the $ store and gotten a bag of kitchen sponges and cut them (for cloning) Worked fine. (I sliced them all the way down, by 1/2 way across. Seemed a better idea for cloning) I've never started a pot seed in the AG

hmmm. so would that work for seedlings? are the sponges porous enough for roots to grow through it?

what do you mean by breakdown? I've had them in there for 4 weeks now and no signs of breaking down. natural sponge might (but then don't they live in water?
)Roots will gowth through it fine. Seen roots grow through coco coir chips (little clone roots too)

Not sure what ya mean. Sorry. Just don't use rockwool it will stay WAY too wet.
just try a el-cheapo sponge cut up with some herb seeds and see how it goes.
