if the fan rotates left to right, the extension arms dictate the lights travel.
with a timer set to like 5mins on 5 mins off, you would get the light stopping in different places whilse covering the entire area of your grow in 5 mins intervals. this is obveously dependent on the fans motion but i dought the left to right movement of the fan is the same and with the power cut of every 5 mins, i recon it wouldnt be in the same place if u know what i mean.

just thought of it like right now, so dont hold me to anything, but anyone wanna give it a try?
If some1 does this dub it the Nit3watch *something* :D
im so excited, save 300$ come on bump bump!

Watch your use of the word genius in the future. When ideas turn out not so special, after your perceived genius high wears off, it can make you seem like a sort of tard.

Anyway

Numerous people have done things like this. It won't do a lot for you the way you have it shown as you only sweep the <1 foot the fan swings or whatever it is, it's not a very large swing. To get more movement you'd have to crank up the genius factor and and add some basic mechanical advantage to improve the travel but those fan's don't always have the power to move much more than themselves.

Can you prove the genius factor and show us how you would improve the travel? (Just the OP, no hints)

Also it doesn't make sense to stop it. One of the big advantages of a light mover is you can lower the light past where it would burn the plants if it were stationary. You loose that benefit if you stop it at all.

i was just excited, like ureka moment. no need to flame me dude but w/e.

the extension arms determins the travel, as the lenght of the arm increases, when the fan turns, the radius is increase hence increasing the travel.

but ye, would have to be tried out, doing my next grow in jan so will try it out.
