Plants typically double in height during the flowering period. Especially in the beginning, they go through a rapid vertical growth spurt and grow as much as 2" a day. I don't speak metric so I'm not sure what 20cm equates to, but generally speaking, you want to begin the flowering cycle when your plants have reached a height of about 1.5ft. If you are starting from seed, this is usually about 4-5 weeks. If you started from clones, it could be as short as 3 weeks. It's really up to you. You can control the height easily enough though. I would suggest that you top the plants when they have 5 nodes of growth. Just snip the top right off just above the 5th node. This will stunt vertical growth and force the plant to focus its growth laterally. This works very well with Indicas, since they are shorter and bushier than Sativas. It will also give you two main colas instead of one, and will most likely increase your yield. You can also pinch, tie, and manipulate the shoots to control the height. I often top my plants AND pinch them. This has consistantly increased my yields and done wonders keeping the height in check.
