Tried to look thru threads to find the answer but failed. I live in southern Michigan and am looking for strains that do well in Michigan. Did GG4 ok but will not do again. Super skunk did ok. Planning on Seedsman super skunk, C 99 x blueberry, OG Kush, northern lights x big buds, Mama Mia, and maybe Jack Herer. Do any of these strains stand out as either good or bad.

I'd look for a shorter flowering period plant. Mainly because the weather gets cold fast.

Yeah agreed.... you want to stick to strains that will finish before 10 weeks.
The 7 to 8 week strains are more ideal.

I will say that I grow in northern wi...and have harvested as late as November... but most yrs that is not possible.
Takes yrs of experience to be able to get a long flowering plant to finish up here in these harsh conditions

Length of flowering is much less important than how early a plant will transition to flower. For example a eight week flower that doesn't start flowering untill early September, will not be ready before the weather kills it most likely.
It is russian roulette with indoor strains, some may flower early but many do not as indoor goals are different than outdoor when it comes to breeding. It is a much safer bet to find strains bred for outdoor. AK bean brains has a freezland ibl that's worth checking out, Vashon seed has Eki bird. Both breeders can be found on jbcseeds and are reasonably priced.

I'd suggest realgorrila seeds
They specialize in outdoor early varieties
I grew fire99 and kushty and they were great
Also 11 Rose's rocks...but early mid October
And bradley danks jager x purple punch was very high quality done by Oct 1st...smelled grapey.zero mold and tons of frost...buds could easily pass for indoor

Purple Punch finishes late September. Hard buds that look like indoor.

I may run vashon early bird (or EKI bird) this year but the bud pics I've seen were a bit leafy.
Are there any good crosses that have the same early/fast characteristics plus dense nugs w/less leaves?
Sounds like early bird X purple punch would be ideal.

VEB is a bit leafy, but most outdoor strains are to some extent. I will say that I think you are on the right track using it to cross with. I will probably never grow VEB on its own again, but crossing it with mother of berries created a early, heavy yielding plant that reeks of cat piss and berries in the best possible way. I feel like it's a great tool to get where you wanna be.
