Strains and Medium for first grow?

Should I use Coco or Soil for my first grow? More specifically, what type/brand? I'll be growing Nirvana B-52 and Master Kush indoors under 2-3 400w hps lights which I'm getting real cheap ($120 for all three).

Also, any advice for these strains? Should i grow different strains? Has anyone grown these before? I'm getting them both from Attitude, but they're both nirvana strains.

i would go with a fox farm soil. they are usually the best. if the smell concerns are an issue make sure you get a serious carbon filter. i grew b-52 on one of my first grows and that was a smelly bitch. that's all i got. good luck! :peace:

Thanks bro, I'm def going to build a carbon filter instead of buying one due to lack of funds.

Does anyone have any ideas about what type of nutes I should use? Fox Farm sells those too, I've discovered. How are those?

never used fox farm's ferts, but i'm sure they're decent. i would go with either earth juice or bc grow nutes. earth juice is my nute of choice. get the grow, bloom, catalyst and meta-k. you'll be all set. :peace:

I would reccomend two choices for mediums

1st choice Pro Mix BX. Very nice and airy medium made up of mostly peat and perlite use it straight outta the bag its cheap too just make shure you add nutrients every other watering I use Pure blend pro with great results.

2nd choice 50% Coco coir 50% perlite. Coco is fucking great. I reccomend a high quality brand like Canna Coco (its really the best) But its more expensive than the promix and you have add perlite to it that also costs money. but I like it a lttle better than promix not much differnce though.

These are two soiless mixes and very easy for a first timer. this is how I learned and this is now how I grow. Just make sure you get some high quality nutrients and follow the instructions on the lable for soiless applications. I grow in 3 gallon pots or 5 gallon. I go with the smaller ones because I can fit more in my tiny closet. Using these mediums and pot sizes you will only have to water every 4-7 days depending on your pot size and plant size.

I am only a novice grower but this is what works the best for me check out my grow journals in my sig. I use pro mix for both of them

same here. finally bought the soul i always wanted (Fox Farms Ocean Forest, its also pH balanced) after months of growing in poor quality soil. im going with the Earth Juice lineup. definitly go with EJ Grow & Bloom, maybe Catalyst too. Check out this link- http://the3lb.com/2007/08/08/guide-to-earth-juice-grow/

Never used Fox Farm nutes either but i saw Dillweed get overwhelming results from them so you can give it a try. They all have some chemicals in them, EJ is all organic tho.

Both pro mix and canna coco are also PH buffered as for nute I would say Canna nutes 100% organic but very pricy. Botanicare Pure Blend pro are great no totally organic but no chemicals and everything is dirived from a natural source. Atami nutes are alos all organic. All work great in soiless mixes.

Where would i get the Fox farm ocean forest soil cheapest?

Also, Has anyone used Dutch Nutrient Formula nutes? i'm under the impression that they are specifically formulated for cannabis. sounds good, right?
