Hello everyone, hoping that my grow goes good this year and i get some bud i would like to store it for long periods of time since im a lightweight. I had an idea but im not sure it will work for as long as i need it. BTW i do not want to use a fridge. Well anyways i was planning on buying a dozen mason jars and splitting my bud up in the evenly so i have 1 jar per month to last the whole year. I would then seal the jars and place them in my dark closet( room temp) for the whole year taking only a jar a month. Or i could also vacum seal it in bags before putting it in the jars.

I just wanted to know if it would be sble to last a whole year? If there woulc be little to no potency loss? And if i can throw the bud in the jars for a year after a week of drying? Or would the bud have to be super dry?

-Thanks

You should get a propper cure on the bud before jarring. After a short cure it should jar up quite nice and should easily last a year. I would skip the vacuum sealed bags and go directly into jars. A good canning jar is air tight whereas vaccum bags are not completely and have that petroleum product scent that will permiate your pot over that time. try to store the jars in a dark and cool a place as possible with very little daily fluctuation in temps. I'de actaully suggest burrying the stuff if it's a possibility

Thanks for the good info, buti have a few questions on that. How long of a cure should i do? And what would be considered a good canning jar? But burrying them actually sounds like a good idea, but wouldnt temps fluctuate more(i know ground stays reletively the same temp but im mean for change in seasons) and would burrying the a couple feet be ample?

-thanks

they sell good canning jars at walmart.. you just want to make sure they have a good seal on them... as for how long to cure them for.. i would say atleast a month minimum to begin with.. the longer the cure, the better of course..
i would think that as long as you get below the frost line you would be ok with burying them in the yard.. i would think that a good basement would do almost as good of a job though imho..

The mason jars are perfect, you want to hang dry until the stem almost snaps, the buds will feel dry but inside they are still moist including the stem( the more stem you leave the slower it will dry) after this period you jar the buds and burp the jar after about 12 hours you will notice the buds have moistened back up, if too moist pull buds out and lay on paper or something for hour until crisp feeling again the re jar, let it sit a few hours and check by openning and see if they are moist again or still dry feeling, you will learn to judge and the length of time between jar burping will get to be more and more until its ready to bury or store in same jar until ready to smoke, The smoke will be primo in a couple of months. What is happening in the jar is the moisture is pulled from the inside of bud or stem and dissipates or evaps into the air in the jar, one the air in the jar reaches a certain humidity level it will lock as it needs to breath, at this point if this humidity level is too high it will cause mold so this is why you burp to release the humidity and allow the buds to release more moisture into the air in the jar until it locks again and needs burping or is dry enough where it can stay Vapor locked if you want to think of it that way, it cannot dry out more because there is no where for the moisture to evaporate as its at that humidity level again. The point to all this is to control the dry and slow it down as much as you can to properly cure the buds. If you just dry it out it will be more harsh as it dried too fast.
