put the lights as close as you can to the plants, don't burn them.. you don't want your stems lengthy

its just a fish tank light? you could probably move them a little closer depending on temp of your area..which is??? and if the stems look stringy or about to fall over thats stretching..if they are long but strong and LOOK hollow, you are doin good..what is the medium used to start them? 4" in 5days is ok I just transplanted one that was almost 4" into a 2 quart planter. (you should put the tall ones in something bigger over the weekend.

normal lighting wont do.you need the correct light or your sprouts will just stretch a considerable amount daily.

if its the wrong kind of light and you put it as close as possibe to the seedlings then they will stretch just as much(because of the heat from the standard lighting).
i did this before a long time ago.
now i start my sprouts under my h.p.s. and use the same bulb for the whole grow.

Maybe try to throw a cfl or two in there, and put them close to the plant (2inches) that should help keep them from stretching.

the mylar is makin it pretty darn hot in there id say 75-79 degrees this is my very first attempt so i had to use what i had layin around..the stems are not hollow like u sed they are stringy but i feel if i put them too close to the light they will burn....the light bulb has a bluish tint on it when its off but puts out the yellowish light when turned on i cant really move the light down since its a lid for the tank so i guess ima put something in the tank to set them on so they can be a little bit closer ne idea when i should be seeing more leaves(what day/week) im not trying to get alot of bud out of them maybe ten grams a plant..just wanting to try it out before my next one wich i plan on going all out for!!

75-80 is good for them, they need some airflow, bringing in even the smallest fan will circulate air and get those stems strong...just watch for any browning on those tips for heat burn

I wouldn't go any smaller than 23w. A four pack at walmart is like 7 bucks, but try to get the daylight (6500K) bulbs if you can, they're better for vegging. These will probably run you $3-5 a piece as they'll probably be a better brand.

whats the smallest wattage i can use (c f l) and how much are they
sorry mate i only do h.p.s.
one bulb does all(dual spectrum bulbs).
c.f.ls are a waste of time and money.
i have seen people use c.f.l bulbs in simple cheap y splitters and they seem to work well but i depends on your setup/grow space/room.
i have seen large bins used as grow boxes kitted out with c.f.l bulbs and y splitters they are cheap to set up and run but regular light(incandescent)will never do.
you want this kind of set up for cheapness using cfls.

ok so the one i was telling yall anout that was grown under a diff light it is growing under a 13 watt cfl lamp that i had on it about two inches away that stem is alot hollower than the others can i put more soil in the other pots to bury the stem?? i have taken that light out and put it in the other side of that tank so now i have one 15 watt flur. and a 13 watt cfl is this enough and i also place a bowl upside down and they are all 3-4 inches away from the light now is this better

some pics of your set up would help.
when they have stopped stretching you can transplant them and bury the stretched stems under the soil and get some proper lighting.
more watts/light=more growth.
