have you tried the paperclip technique to run your fans at 12 volts, this however means they are bit louder but they can be ran at 6 volts just place the paper clip in the correct holes. fans can run without the motherboard attached then.

Computers usually have many wires coming out the back lol My computer has 12 cables plugged into it and its not a growbox

But to help, your best hope is to rig up everything to run off 120 volts. A power adapter can easily be wired to comp fans so they will run on 120 volts rather than 12.

Look around the house at your power adapters, and keep any for appliances that die. You can take any standard black transformer (black box you plug into the wall) and wire it to PC fans. Just be sure the output voltage is appropriate. Fans will run on as little as about 4 volts (and still be effective) and as much as 14 and higher (depending on the fan). People usually worry about amps too, but computer fans barely pull any amps at all.

alright guys thanks for ur replys. Since i have posted this iv asked a freind of mine and he says i need a 12v light converter that he can wire up and loop some wires to my lights ect.. i haven't yet got all the bits but when i do i will post you my progress.

this is going to be my first grow and im planning on starting some church and some AMS og style in the stealth box to then be plant outside around june till october. i am planning on using subcools supper soil and i cnt wait to see the results. thanks again for the usefull info and i will keep you posted real soon.

Here is what i did :) works like a charm too :) k this is going to be kinda long... use the computers original power supply cord where it plugs into the original location :) on the other side of that plug is some wires that were soldered on :) get you a power strip and cut the end off.. now solder those three original pc power supply pins to your power strips cord and voila :) stealth.. i will try to post some pics of this in another thread later :)

alright guys iv ordered my pc box thats on its way. it comes with 2 fans that i picked it up on ebay for £9 and £12 for delivery witch i think was quite cheap. not sure on height but it looks mid range witch will do till i transfer outside. i need some help on lights i was thinking of having 4 15w 6500k daylight cfls with black and white sheeting? i have chosen these for bubls as that would up the lumens to 3600 is that enough, and to also keep the heat down. what do you all think?

you alright dude. i have done what you said and it works like a dream. i have put a 5v transformer from a old charger on there powing 3 fans. now i cant even hear these fans so i dont know if it will work or not. im going out today to get my light fittings and once done i will have to test is and see what happens with the temp. if not i have got a old 12v plug i could take apart and fix up and that will be blowing. ill load some pics up soon

i'll help you out.

i finished my PC box a few days ago, it's ready, it fires up like a charm, and i have ONE cable coming out the back.

total cost of my build was around 50 bux.

To wire the lights and shit together I bought:

1 8 Foot 16 Gauge Extension chord.
1 Surge Protector: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-6-Oulet-Wallmount-Surge-Protector/10248163

2 Socket to bulb converters.

1 12 VDC converter. (Pic Below)

the surge protector needs a grounded connection. it opens up to five plugs.

for the fans i kept the two in the computer (one for exhaust, the other was on the motherboard). i bought the computer off craigslist

to wire the fans just cut the tip of the 12vdc converter and wire it red/red and black/black and it should fire up like a charm.

the lights just screw into the plug to socket thing, and the plug to socket thing goes in the surge protector. the surge protector goes into the extension chord, only one cable coming out the back of the PC......

i'll put up pics of my finished case soon.

oh and about the lumens, it's a minimum of 3000 per square FOOT minimum. some growers say that more than 5000 per square FOOT is wasting money in electricity, others say the more the better.... all i know is the minimum.

that's about 9842.49 lumens per square meter.

i'm using a old PC case, i'm gonna use 2 26 watt bulbs for veg. one daylight one softwhite. that's 3400 lumens, and even the biggest PC tower will be around 1 square foot so it should be ok.

for flower i'm switching the 26 watt softwhite for a 42 watt softwhite. max lumen output is gonna be 1700+2700 = 4400. that's gonna be enough.

can't find the camera, so pic's will have to wait....

hi redivider welcome to my thread. thanks for the info.

heres what iv done.

firstly i have gutted the pc out with drive bays and so on.. i then took apart the atx or psu (the power supply for the pc) and took every thing out apart from fan and the back of the power cable. i then took of the fan and the connector and cut that side off with an hacksaw so i didnt have the box at the top. i put all that back on and then started to insulate.

i took all the panels of the computer and duct taped all the the frame so it was completely sealed . i then opted for the black and white sheeting for the inside. i measured the sides 2cm more than i need so i had overlap. i also used a prick stick to stick the sheeting to the side and clear tape for the joins. now that was done its time to wire up my lights ect.

firstly i made my light settings up by using 3 wall light mounts from my local diy shop i then wired them all together . i then drilled holes in the side of the computer for where i was going to screw the lights to. i then search around the house and i found an old charger for a bluetooth headset that was 5v. i opened the plug and i got the wires and taped up with duct tape. i then connect the wires to a connector block to the pc power, on the other end of the charger i connected 2 fans with other connector box... i then screwed my lights in with nut and bolts and wired up to the pc mains.

WE HAVE LIFT OFF HUSTON!!. i now have a fully working pc stealth box that i can start growing my mj.

i found that quite cheap, simple and fun to build. i was on a budget and in total i spent around £30 all
in!!

unfortunately i cant grow n e thing at the moe as im moving house soon and i not looking to start a grow till beginning of may coz im growing my babys outside this year. i will probley do a grow with some Lst training but its not going to be till a few months yet.. sorry bout that guys but i will ill get some pics soon of the building of this. if any newbie (like me) that a looking to start a pc grow, i am more than happy to help you along the process. ;-)

i would like to say thankyou to every1 on your imput take care :bigjoint:

happy 2010

alright dude that light setup seems to be alright. i was thinking 3 15wat so its round about the same. about ur box how many fans have you got in urs?? in mine i got 2. 1 intake at the bottom and an exhaust at the top by the lights. would that be enough or would i need 1 more for circulation?
