New goal for this project is to make it run completely silently, that means 0db and nothing over! So far so good, the Prima Klima 5" Fan has been completely engulfed in insulation (acoustic/thermal) with access left to the temperature control knobs. It's now pretty much completely hidden.

I sectioned the Prima Klima fan off to make things neater, quieter, and leave room for the electrical sockets i'm going to wire up into the cupboard. These sockets will go on the left side in the compartment above the flowering chamber, and all electrical things shall be wired to this point, again to make things neat and organised.

The pull out tray is now complete. The wire mesh (bronze) used on-top was fairly strong, but definitely needed some support. So for this i used 2 galvanised steel bars to support the weight of the wet pots that will sit on-top.

The drainage system is also finished pretty much. Both trays are angled towards the left so all the water runs down the trays and doesn't just get caught, but caught and drained off directly outside via a 19mm hose. The top tray with loads of holes is to catch the water draining from the pots on the right of the flowering cab, the water will run down the tray, through the holes into the tray below, and then towards one corner where i have a drain.

This has been designed in such a way that there is a gap around all edges of the tray, to allow air to be pulled up from the very bottom compartment. Air flow should be good and even, so hopefully this'll mean no stale spots anywhere.

So originally i was going to use 2 RVK's, one either side of the cool-tubes, however after setting everything up, i'm starting to think just the 1 Prima Klima 5" RVK will be enough, as the airflow right at the very end of my ducting (good couple feet away from the cab) is still strong, and i can't see a RVK making much difference to the pull of air. Will save money on power and create less noise so a win on 2 fronts.

Few things left to do but getting there. Need to figure out how to decorate this box....

If I were you I would draw a nice set of plans and step by step instructions for building this cab and sell them for $25 a set.

Considering adding 2 more tubes either side of each cool-tube... if so will be a future addition, this is all for now

  • Been busy at work on this thing, nearly done, end is in sight. The doors have been constructed, lined with ORCA and been fitted with latches to keep it all shut and air tight.

  • To make things neater i wired up sockets inside the cab to the ventilation chambers. I put 6 plugs up top and 2 more down below, probably could do with another one up top but a multi-socket will be to do to save space.

  • After sticking the doors on and finishing off the electrics, i tested for light leaks by turning on both cooltubes and turning off the lights in my room. There is 1 small slit of light coming from the bottom door, but apart from that no leaks anywhere else. That will be solved with a rubber seal so a minor problem.

  • With everything up and running, temperature at K'nex level is bang on 27C with the lights able to be raised up a good 3-5 inches more, so i should be alright. Nice to see that 1 PK RVK fan doing all the work in cooling both cabs, maybe over summer time i'll be forced to wire up that spare RVK sitting here.

  • All thats left is a quick run of silicon sealant round the edges inside, and the outside to be painted the same colour as my walls to make it look like a built in fitted wardrobe. Considering sticking a mirror on the big flowering cab door but we'll see.

  • K'nex Scrog screens have been made in preparation for the next round. If you're wondering what the deal is, check my last grow in my sig to see what the plan is.

  • Soundproofing worked nicely. Soundproof plasterboard was sandwiched to every accessible external face of the cab, with a double layer on the doors, triple on the PK fan chamber to really quieten the sound of the fan

Yes!! Excited for ya buddy, last one was a good time. Did I miss it or have you not said what strain you're growing? Check out my scrog when you get a chance and let me know what you think, day 1 12/12 and already promising to impress :bigjoint:

EDIT: Missed it. Nice choices!
  • Strains will be: Strawberry Sour Diesel, New Blue Diesel, Sugar Punch and Engineers Dream, Might throw in a Casey Jones but probably not

Man! Just signed up here and found this thread...

This is just too perfect to be true..!! You've got my ideal setup, all explained step by step! Can't thank you enough for this!
I wanted to know if you tried it yet? How's the soundproofing on your fan? And is the 400CFM enough to keep everything cool?

I'm definitely following this one!! Peace!

Awesome grow box mate, I think that deserves some good ol' rep! goes to show what you can do when you have a plan XD, just finished insulating, light and waterproofing my outdoor mini scrog shed, gonna jam a 400 watter in it.

Thanks man, in my books fixing stuff is more rewarding than building stuff, but i see what u mean. Glad u like.

I've actually changed my mind for the line-up for next grow, nothing concrete yet so i'll let you know when it's all official. Will stop by in ur thread in a bit man

These airpots don't only look good, they ARE good! Most the money spent on this project was spent on materials, all the other equipment i've collected over a period of time. To start off my growing career i borrowed a few hundred quid off someone.... so there was a time where i was on a tight budget buying the cheapest stuff i could find. I like to think i've worked my way up and i'm not plannin on stoppin anytime soon! Never heard of a CMH... enlighten me.

Air pots are 6L ones, hoping to grow relatively big plants in small pots, after all thats what airpots are meant to do! Grew a 5ft tall super lemon haze plant in a pot smaller than this so i should be good, and that wasn't even an air pot.

For nutes i think i'll be sticking with Canna, i've got quite a lot left over from last time round and i like the results.

Thanks man, as i said before the build journal wasn't quite as detailed as i was hoping to make it, e.g. u can't see the time and effort put into making the doors (A LOT), all the filling in with polyfiller, and sanding down that was done ect ect, but nevermind. If you want to know anythin about the build just PM me.

It's currently in the testing stages. I've decided against doing the 4 strain SCROG as mentioned above as first i want to test the cab out with a slightly simpler grow, so i can find tune anything and make necessary adjustments before going all out.

The fan is completely soundproofed, however a little sound is coming from the ducting going from the cab to the chimney. I could wrap it in insulation and box it up but for the time being i really can't be bothered! Been hard work getting this far. But the good news is the one fan at 400CFM is enough. The temperature at the top of the pots is between 24-27C (probably helped by the insanely cold air being pulled in to the cab), and i can actually place my hand pretty damn close to the cool-tubes comfortably. I've currently stuck x2 400W MH in there to see the temps and its sitting at 25C, perfect!

Think its important to note that i've got nothing sucking the hot air out the cool-tubes, only the 1 PK fan blowing air through the tubes and all the way to my chimney. Basically i've realised this grow its FAR more effective to blow air across the cool-tubes rather than to try and suck the heat away by sticking the fan on the other side. If i'd done that i'd be battling with the heat right now i'm sure.

Thanks very much man, appreciate it. If you need anythin when ur doing ur next one gimme a shout

Yea where's the update at here!!

Think we're done here to be honest!

More More We Want More! More More We Want More! More Cabinets! More Weed! More Kinex! More More More........ :)

Yes ma'am, but ur gona have to make your way over to my next thread as i'm not starting the grow journal here, this one was just for the cab build. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks very much. Yeh planning is key, along with good drawings! Just had a peek at ur mini shed, very nice, wish more people would build set ups from the ground up, or at least try! To me the set-up is part of the hobby.

very nice mate. love the laser lights
Thanks, was gona paste "Bookshelf Wallpaper" on the front so from a distance the cab would look like a bookshelf, but this just looks a million times better.... smoking through these lasers is insane....there are hundreds if not thousands
