Starting the seeds...

Hey Everybody;

I already did many grows in earth but this time i'm going for the bubbles :hump:
So I almost finished building my bubbleponic system ...
I have this question tho :

I will be starting from seed and I will use peat pellets ...
is it okay to put those peat pellets directly in the netpots and surround them with hydroton (after they become like 1-2 inch sprouts) or should I cut the netting of the peat pellets and remove the peat pellets completely before I surround them with hydroton in my netpots??

Any advice or any other germinating techniques intended for bubblepo. systems that you want to share with me will be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thanks!!

I would germ them directly in rockwool blocks if you can as these are more stable than peat--that is you never have to worry about any rockwool falling down into your reservoir and clogging a pump, but I would worry about that with peat. You can buy them online pretty easy.

I let the rockwool sit for a day in a baggie with spring water, rinse them the next day with clean spring water and put seeds into each whole (with maybe 2/3 of the seen submerged into the cube, but some sticking out) I usually have them on a plate and cover them with a bowl, putting them in a warm area (top of fridge, existing grow space, etc.) Each day I hold each cube over the sink and give it a fresh drink of spring water. This usually works just fine. Sometimes I still cheat and do a paper towel germ, but I really try direct rockwool whenever possible as there is less of a chance I will screw up the plant when I move from paper towels to rockwool (taproots are sensitive.)

Last, I have actually germed in aerogarden sponges and transplanted those directly into hydroton when I was ready to put them into the bubble room.
