Stanley Blower Venting

Ok... I am going to be growing in a closet - 5'(deep) x 4.5'(wide) x 9'(tall)..

I will have a 400W HPS and 6 26w CFLs(4daylight and 2 cool white)

I own the house so I can do some mods(dont want to do a lot though - selling in 4 years and dont want to have a lot to patch up)

I have just bought the Stanley Blower fan from Walmart and plan to use it for ventilation. I will also have a standard sized oscillating fan inside the room for circulation and for promoting strong stem growth. I cannot decide how to use the stanley blower for venting. I will be cutting a hole for intake at bottom of closet connected to the room outside the closet. I will be putting a register on the outside and pipe it to the same shape rectangular intake hole directly on the inside of room. This will be about 4 inches from floor(right above baseboard). I will be making the same type hole for exhause at the top of the same wall(with a register on other side for stealth).

I was thinking of putting the stanley blower right beside the intake vent sucking air from the outside room and aim the blower at my 400W HPS. Will this work with passive exhaust? This way it will be active intake - passive exhaust?

If possible, I would like to keep from attaching anything to the blower fan(such as ducting). If I need to, what is the best way to do this? I want to only use the stanley fan for ventilation and I want to keep the stanley fan inside the grow room. What can I do to achieve this?

you will be better off with an active exhaust. you just never know where an intake fan will push your odors.

How would I best set that up?

have a fan sucking air out of the room. i have a squirrel fan in my room that blows out stale air, sucking it from my room.

Ok... so I hook some ducting to the exhaust on the fan and have that running to my exhaust hole at top of wall. Now for sucking the air in the room out, do I need to hook anything to the fan's intake?

It's all about air pressure in the room. It's much more difficult to force air into a room that has the same pressure. It's more efficient to remove air from the room, thus lowering the pressure there, so air will be forced to come in from adjacent areas that have higher pressure.

For your room, just mount the blower on the inside of the high exhaust hole, blowing out. This will force air to enter through all other openings. It's called active exhaust/passive intake.

gp07, i think you are talking about squirrl fan. i have the same one i placed in attic sucking out of grow room and venting through roof vents..sorry no pics but i will try and explain. on the intake side of fan i cut a 4" air duct coupler down on one side so flange would sit flush with intake and tin taped. another but same coupler connecting the duct hose from fan in attic to the celling in room, from there to light hood. works great !! three speeds allow you to ajust accordingly. then vented the bottoms of box. the suction is so good and the fresh air intake through vents is great. i can hardly keep the door open without proping something against it...good luck...and yes one 4" hole in celling, o well.

anyone else with a stanley?

I dont mean to hijack but i have to figure this out.

If so do you use speed controll on it?
