i am growing in an attic and as u know its gonna get hot as hell up there i have a 2x2x4 box that is completel sealed and has intake from the outside by a duct in the roof now would this blower mod rated at 1200 cfm on low be good enough to cool my 400w hps and the box if the temps get like 100 in the box? any opnions on this is it worth it ??? overkill?? and is this thing loud if it is can i build a muffler for it?

You need a cool tube.

And yes that fan will be loud

i have a cooltube its right above the box how lpud will i be ive reaf topics where people say its not loud at all anyone have this thing???

got stoned and misread your post..

It happens, lol

p.s. for some reason i thought you said leaf blower, lololol

its gonna be in the attic and in other topics it says u cant hear it in the next room... they say its very quit for the cfm it gives off

its not a leaf blower its the blower mod from stanley it has speeds and u can rig it up as a duct fan and muffle it out

If it has adjustable speeds, mo bettah!

1200 CFM is alot tho. I use a 180 cfm at about 75-85 percent power thru a 6' cool tube to cool a very small closet. Also I actually sucl the air from the room in one side and the other gets vented via inline fan to the attic...

Also the corrugated tubing like for a dryer is teh suck. The airflow characteristics are terrible, try to get the expandable ducting that is not corrugated. Its really smooth on the inside so your more efficient (you need less cfm cuz its easier to push the air thru). Also alot less loud!

the way i would rig this up is have my box connected to the 400w hps in the cooltube and have it hooked up to the intake on the blower and bugee it to reduce noise and attact another duct to blow it out of the attic any idea if this would work? i know its alot of cfm but its alot of eat and since i have the intake hooked up to the attic also it will draw in more fresh aire stabalizing the temps inside the cab even though its gonna be hot as hell in the attic my only question is is it verrrrrrrrry loud to where it can be heard in the next room or not and would i be able to stick it in a box and muffle it out to reduce the noise??

if i hav less cfm thn it wont get the heat out which is what i am aiming for i need the boxes temps to be stable and that an would be perfect just need to know if its gonna be crazy loud

How far of a run is your ducting? If your able to turn it waaaaay down or get an adjustable controller on it (30 bucks), it might work. The run of my tubing to the scrubber (vent) is less than 10 feet.... Im cooling a 600w hps ....

First of all its not that loud at all, pretty quiet for a squirrel cage, about like a small desk fan. Second it isnt 1200cfm regardless of what Lasko says, most people have agreed that its equal to a 256 cfm Dayton Blower. There are a couple of huge threads with hours of discussion on this thing, there are also tons of setups and examples. They work great for some people and just ok for others. Im using one right now in a 3x2x6 box. Ambient temps outside the box are 76, i have a 400w hps in a 6in cooltube and that fan keeps my temps at 80-82 with it all closed up and its only running through about 3ft of tube. But it has to pull through a 180degree bend and 2ft carbon scrubber. Overall a great fan for the price,my box would be 100 easy if my fan wasnt on. I would like my temps a little lower so im thinking about adding a seperate fan for the scrubber, you could always start with 1 then add another, cheap enough.

u see its replies like that, that get me somewhere lol well heres the thing right now i am using 2 inlines 2 exaust their both rated at 250 cfm but pull only 150 should i still gt the stanley???

HMMM, not really sure, you could get it as exhaust and use the other 2 as intake or vise versa or just hook it up and test it out if it doesnt do it for you just package it up and take it back you dont have to chop it up to use it.

i was thinking about using this thing on a HOMEBOX S. How would i go about doing this? i would be doing a CFL grow, so heat will not be that big of an issue. the reason i wnated to use it is for odor control. i was thinking of maybe installing a carbon filter inside the box, and have venting out of it and through the stanley (which would be located outside of the tent). Let me know if this is what most people do, and if there is a more efficient way of going about doing this for mainly odor control.

The reason this fan has been in my mind is because of the price - 39.99 at my wal-mart. If i can save 60-80 dollars on a fan instead of getting a squirrel cage, inline, w/e type of deal....i would be a pretty happy man, as the 60-80 can then go to other parts of my grow. thanks

whats the real cfm on those cause if its in the 1000's ima get it if its only like 300 then is it worth it?

If you just sit it on the ground and turn it on then its the cfm that it says. Once you hook up exhaust tubing and cooltubes and other forms of resistance it equals about 250, which is still really good especially for $40-50. My last setup had a 4in cooltube with a 171 cfm 4in inline fan and it kept it at the same temps but was a lot louder, so i would the Stanly is a good purchase.

Yea thats how most people do it, just have a look around
