I didn't catch Mr Sanders' speech this afternoon, but I think he's hitting one target and missing another badly. He's taking about how Americans need health care, a digital safety net and education assistance and the like- and these are good things.
The target he's missing? The fact that those who are suffering worst from income inequality are people of color in this country, and Mr Sanders has not done a good job at all of selling the benefits of his policy initiatives to them in particular.
That's regrettable, because many of his proposals WILL directly benefit minority poor. Unfortunately, minority advocates are right when they point out that his policies don't go far enough. It's been suggested that this shortcoming, by no means limited to just Mr Sanders or his party or this election, hints at an ugly undertone of racism in this country.
I do hope that's not the case. Goddammit, we need each other. My Black, Brown, Asian and White friends and business associates have each brought their strengths and skills to bear on complex problems and successfully solved them.
We are all of us in the same boat (save one percent) and we all need to support one another in order to build a better life for all of us. THAT'S what the end of racism looks like; when 'the man' (billionaire fatcats who buy and sell elections and politicians like their own personal monopoly game) can no longer manipulate the various races into turning on one another instead of uniting together- against him.

How do you think he should solve that problem?
Like you mentioned, his economic policies favor the poor and middle-class, so when I hear him talk about fixing those things, what I hear is him talking about solutions that would also benefit minority communities. I think he should do a better job of tying his points together to make it perfectly clear how solution A solves problem B and how it applies to them directly.
