Stand alone carbon scrubbers.

Will a scrubber (that says it will swap the air in an 8x8 room every 3 minutes) be effective set outside of tent but in the same small-ish room the tent is in?

It will clean the air in the room the tent is in but will do nothing to remove and replace air in the tent which is the purpose of them for both removing smell and exchanging the air to keep co2 levels in growing range as well as remove heat to keep temps in growing range too.

The best way to do it right would be a fan and filter in the tent extracting out through ducting and out of a window or out through a chimney or into another room where the heat wont come back, pushing it out into the room will make the room hot and the tent will eventually be drawing hot air back in.
If space in the tent is an issue then filter in tent and fan outside works just the same.
You can run a filter in the tent and another in the room itself which would just scrub the air and spew it back into the room. That would certainly keep the house smell free.
Don't use cheap filters!

I use a shed.
I run 1 fan for inlet fresh air, 1 fan with carbon filter for outlet heat/smell....
And an extra carbon filter + fan taking warm air/smell at top of room and recirculating/neutralising smell to floor level. I'm well filtered for smell.
I'm about to chop and I'm going to set up a tent in the house.
One carbon scrubber in the tent and one re scrubbing the room and maybe I'll pick up some Ona gel to neutralise pong as well.
