Split main stem

So I was gifted a clone that a friend had been using to practice training techniques on, from topping to an attempt to mainline. He did not build off the third node for the mainline, instead there is maybe half an inch of main stem and all the branches are built basically off the first node. I was transplanting it to a 5 gallon pot and had to remove the tie down stakes, the plant wanted to pull aggressively to one side as soon as the stakes were removed. When I got it transplanted and went to stake it back down, what little bit of main stem there was split right down the center. I grabbed some twine and tied the branch back together, hoping it will heal. It's been 3 days now and nothing has died off on me.

So should I use a different method for mending this stem? I had to tie it very tight to get the stem to stay held together and I don't know if the string being very tight will cause a problem.

I was thinking about using chopsticks or something to prop the branch up and then tie it together not quite as tight. I can't really tape it, string was about all I could use to wrap the little bit of stem.

At work so I can't get pics plus I'd have to untie it and expose the break again to show it.

just keep it supported and it will heal its self it'll make a knot there and when u see that all is well ,take about 2-3 weeks

Cool, I'm just concerned that tying it too tight could cause a problem as the stem tries to grow and ends up growing into the twine? I'll just leave it tied up tight if that's all good.

Take a clone just in case. I snapped my main stalk once. Hung on with like an 1/8". I thought it would recover and she died. Best pheno I've ever had of Green Crack. SMH.

Edit: NVM I just reread that it was only a branch.

that makes sence , the way ive always repaired a break is to take a straw and cut it long wayz fiit it over the break and tape it . twine would werk too but as you said you dont have room . aka saddle splint as i call it .

been using that diff colored (craft-style) duck brand tape to temporarily repair wounds. it's good for labeling containers too.

Actually it was the main stem, basically cut the plant in half. I'll take a clone, just in case.

Duct tape will work fine and any type of support will help a lot. If your plant is still OK after 3 days it should be alright, just keep it taped and supported. I had quite a few splits last season due to high winds, over- training, and rain, I think I only lost one branch. All the plants survived and did very well.

if it split at a wye then you can pop a tie on each branch and a third tie pulling the others together just enough to close the break.
