Hey I went to check on my plant today I looked at one of the lower fan leaves. My plant is growing in some light forest/brush central Florida ands it hot as Africa right now. ANyhow I saw this little black spider and one of his buddies on my plant. Are they good, will the protect my plant or what. Here are pics but there not very good005.jpg002.jpg
Im preety sure they arent spider mites and I will have better pics up later. The web is bending the leaf like that

spiders are carnivorous and will actually kill other insects that could potentially harm your plant. Unless you think the webbing is affecting your plant, I think your new house guests will end up helping.

haha cool its nice to see that they might be like my plants guardian. Usually I hate spiders but if there good I would be preety dayum happy

I can't really see the insect in your picture to tell if its just a normal spider but if that's all it is, they will help keep your plant insect free.

How small are we talking here? I can't even see the damn things. What do you mean by spider looking? If they're that tiny then they're either baby spiders (no help to your plant) or black aphids (very harmful to your plant). Do they look like this?

carne, i can't see the spider either, but I can see the pretty good bend in that leaf from spider silk, which leads me to believe it's just trying to trap insects. Come into my web said the spider to the fly.

sorry i was using my ipod camera and the lil guy was moving so he didnt show up well and no it had the thinner appearance of a spider not aphids

no need to apologize. I may have come across as a little curt. sorry about that. IF it's a spider then it's no harm to your plant. If it's a spider MITE then you have issues. :p
