Blackstar uses CREE, Epistar and Bridgelux LED's.

Advnaced LED uses Epistar and Bridgelux LED's.

E.Shine uses the same Epistar and Bridgelux LED's.


I'd rather have quality LED's, but NOT pay an extra $200 to have it assembled in the USA. For different spectrums different companies make better or worse LED's.

CREE's white LED's are amazing, Luxeon Rebel LED's used to be the brightest red LED's but have been surpassed by newer CREE LED's.... The "best" LED manufacturer changes just like the "best" Automobile, or computer manufacturer changes. This whole "not made in America" schtick is lame....

All right, but you cannot compare Cree xp-e high bin with the cree that blackstar uses, older models?
And you cannot compare epistar and bridgelux (actually bridgelux blues are very efficient) with cree-xp-e, the new Osram golden dragon or Leuxon Rebel or ledenjin!!!

What I am saying is, pay a lot for your leds if they are REALLY costly products, don't pay TOO MUCH and dont expect too much for less-costly products from companies that do nothing than make a business up!

Enjoy your chinese make leds, I do have one too. But listen to this: to get good rate gram p/w you need WAY MORE watts compared to Osram, cree xp-e or Leuxon Rebel......they are more efficient...... that's the real challange for horticultural leds tech, the use of less electricity. no?

I believe the actual unit is chinese, but they put in their own blend of diodes at their US factory. Ebay sells chinese crap in the same heatsink but only 3 bands. So I think same heatsink but change diodes themselves in Arkansas.

Even Haight LED's only say "Designed in USA", not "Made in USA"...

Yeah I suppose it's a complete impossibility for diodes to get sent from the USA to China... Who would ever come up with a system that allows people around the world to quickly and easily send things to one another for minimal cost and effort? Totally unrealistic, you must be correct; if the LED's were assembled in China they MUST have been made there. No other option.

No company in the world has ever bought high quality components and shipped them somewhere else to be put together because the labor is cheaper. I'm glad you have shown me the (LED) light.

WOW! An all LED forum and still just nothing but argueing. LOL I guess thats how we solve problems? Regardless who or where what was made, the CORRECT spectrums are all that matter. Yes, better diode manufactures will make brighter, longer lasting diodes, but its the combination of certain spectrums that make growing cannabis better. Any unit without IR and UV are NOT worth growing bud with. And the more spectrums in the upper 600nm's and more in the 700mn's then cannabis will thrive. I wish it was all made in the U.S.A, but this is global world and we need to accept the fact that other countries make good products too.

The evo results and pictures I have shown you, they use only cree xp-e 630 and cree xp-e white 10000k (that clashes with a lot of stuff I believed :D )

now look at this: plantphotonics uses 630 red xp-e, 660 deep red ledenjin 5w driven at 3w, two combination of blue bridgelux and white cree xp-g
This guy has pulled 13oz of a 280w panel!!!
this is a picture of his new nearly finished grow, he rekons it'll be way more!!!

I dont doubt it one bit bro. None of this is set in stone and new ideas are great! My only concerns with be quality. Any way he can have the THC and other cannabinoids tested? I dont give a shit how much my yield is if my quality sucks.

For $1500 I could run 3 Blackstar 500 watters (pulling 306 watts each), and completely DESTROY $1500 worth of Plantphotonics...

Are there better, more powerful, more efficient panels? Yes, but you start finding similarities between computer part prices and LED prices when you get to top-tier diodes and parts. For example the best PC processor on the market might cost $1500 (just an example), and you're paying $1500 for that specific reason; it's the best. You could get one just slightly less powerful and pay significantly less money for it.

It's personal preference, some people don't mind paying twice as much for something with only very marginal quality and performance increases.

Although I still believe HGL is raping people over the cost of their LED's they do have some decent info on their site;

"The top-performing 625nm from our Taiwan LED's produced 52 lumens at 350mA. Our testing showed that while the Luxeon LED produced approximately 12% more lumens, the cost was more than double the Taiwan chip. Cree on the other hand produced only 56 lumens, for a 7% output difference vs the Taiwan chip. For this reason we decided against our original plan and sought out a new way to efficiently create more light output."

This is what I'm talking about. Some people will pay double for a 12% increase in performance, and if you've got the money and lack of brains, POWER TO YOU.

PS: HGL, they are raping people indeed! So yes blackstar is one of the best bet for money. No doubts about it.

HAVING SAID THAT, I don't have the money to spend on the best products at the mo HAHAHAH

No, one Blackstar 500w is 300 watt actual power. I was making the point that you could buy 3 tents and have 3 lights for the price of 1 tent with 1 light.

That one tent might be marginally better quality or quantity, but it's not 3 tents worth better.

The more info I try to absorb from all angles (journals, experienced posters, manufacturers), the more I believe GPW should be the main focus. Just too many other variables trying to dig into the details, "he claims she claims" most of which we are trusting from the manufacturers specs.

I think a GPW thread covering a. the best GPW regardless of cost and b. the most economical GPW producer. That seems to cover what most of us are after - right?

I would start the thread myself but i don't have enough skin in the game yet :lol:

Look at evo leds for diodes better spaced around on the heat sink. Real good diodes as well, the best on the market cree-xpe higher bin. There is a grow on the net by Mr x called walking in the garden.
Or look at solstice led grow light by globaltech, using philips leuxon rebel.

Those are real american/spain companies, using quality diodes and assembling in their own country

Just when i thought I had my head around the bigger players in the led game, you drop 2 new ones on my head..... sigh
