So. It looks like Sour D is kicking NYC Diesel's ass in the polls. :mrgreen:

There's clearly a lot I don't know about the history of this strain...all the different breeders & such. The NYC Diesel in my original photo is definitely Soma's creation though. Pretty sure that's what my little auto is derived from, which is cool with me. The more I read up on it, the more it looks like the perfect fit for me: stimulating without causing paranoia; relaxing without causing couchlock. I'm a lightweight when it comes to THC. Too much & I freak out. :shock: So I don't need the ass-kickingest weed to have a good time. And I could give a rat's patoot whether it tastes like diesel fuel or distilled dog piss. As long as the high feels good.

Those are some purdy plants you have there, guys. Here's a couple less impressive shots of my Auto Sour Diesel Haze in Week 9. First grow ever, Solo cup style:




(Sorry my camera is such crap. Her leaves are crispy critters but the buds are doing great somehow. Very frostay). :joint:

One thing Ive learned is tgat every plant hits everyone differently.
What someone says makes them panicky may mellow you.

You really have to try it yourself

While I didn't care for my nyd everyone else did.

Soma's nyc did have a great buzz and smoke as well as healthy and a good product, Just not at all what I was hoping it should be at the time, and simply not diesel.

VERY true, Charface. Sativas tend to make me super sleepy, especially ones with a lemony smell (which are supposed to be the "cerebral, uplifting" ones) haha. I'm still a total nerd when it comes to strains tho. I like to pretend they have some special meaning even though I know they probably don't. :bigjoint:

And yeah, my little plant smells way more citrusy & fruity than it does like gas, morgwar. So I feel ya on the naming thing. There's nothing that distinctive about the smell...I've had a ton of weed that smells like this. (Though it is pungent as hell!)

The history of Soma's NYCD is that he lost the roiginal parent plants after the early seed releases and modern versions of his product are nothing like the original.
People seeking "that good old NYCD" from his current seeds are consistently frustrated.

ECSD on the other hand is a cutting, and getting something in seed form that captures the qualities of the mother has proven very difficult.
The traits that make it unique must be recessive, and thus are lost easily in most outcrosses.
Most people found the early Rez Sour D IBL release to capture the magic, but later releases (different male) didn't have "it".

You may want to look at lines based on Loompa's Headband for sour diesel essence.
Most recently, Karma's Headbanger has had many reports of capturing the sour magic. That line is based on a Rez Sour D IBL male btw.

Seems the ECSD outcrosses and Bx's that come closest to SourD are ones that use an OG male as the outcross parent.

I’ve recently invested over 1k in sour and Chem d and Chem 91 crosses and incrosses from top dawg trying to find a Chem diesel pheno for my momma room. Chemdog 2018 Chem Star pheno hunts coming down the pipe

If you smoke real deal ECSD you know. Theres nothing that smells like or tastes like it. Its really popular from where I'm from. Middle east coast. It's all over here. Lots of people sell it. But theres only a few that have real ecsd. It doesnt smell like diesel at all. Its str8 burnt plastic and rotting dead bodies. And maybe unicorn tears. The smoke is very very thick. And its coats your mouth in nasty yet tasty rubbing alcohol and birthday candle wax. It doesnt have a sour taste at all. If you smoked sour diesel. And it was sour. Then it wasnt real. Idc what anyone says. Sour diesel is not sour. It's not called that bc of the taste. It's called that bc its ruined several friendships and bunnies partnerships. Lmfao has nothing to do with taste. I have myself bought seed form of ecsd from several online sites. Different breeders. And none of them. Except one. And AJs sour diesel, I cant stand him. But hes the reason it's even around . It Tastes like it. Looks like it and smells like it. Now the good part. Duke from Dominion has some good crosses for sale right now on seedsherenow. Ajs sour diesel x vortex. I bet it will be fire. And I hate tga. I dont think you can find just ajs sour diesel now. And if you do find seeds. They're probably not it. They would need to be from an older pack more than likely. Early to mid 90s. And when you beg sour diesel. The top node that is growing. The leaves always taco up and make like a ship shape. And then curve down to the tips. Almost as if the plant is in high humidity at the end of flower. How they curl up.

Yep if I don't hear corpse or burning tires. It ain't sour d. There is NO CITRUS in sour d and NO SOUR.

Got 5 packs of the Local Skunk from Dominion.

Cant wait to run these. Probably will start a pack of these, and a pack of the Nature Farm Sk18, or the NL5 x Sk18 in a few weeks. Have to get some Swami Blue Orca Haze big enough to flower, and they are taking up all the light right now.

I dont know yet lol I had to trash the ones i was growing and decided to do this as a freebies and it is auto post to be faster wanted some Christmas bud lol I'll let ya know I a few weeks or so lol

Back in the late nineties I bought a bag of what was simply called Diesel. Smelled of burnt matches and rotted corpse, lots of pepper cedar and wet cigarette's on the exhale and incredibly uplifting high. Very potent.
I've grown the TD, GP, cali-con, green thumb, smoked the clone onlies and pick up allot of the different expressions described here, But only pieces of the one I originally remember
I avoid and cull the ones that have any fruit characteristics, cross in the pungent beauties that make the cut after a few test runs.
4 generations in and I'm happier with mine than with anything comercially available.
Completely disavowed Soma's abomination except to cross to ak47 and get a fruit salad type of deal that was quickly abandoned.
When I'm through this baby will reek of sulfur and brimstone and exhale like a good scotch.
