Sour Diesel 1 plant smell?..

So I'm about to start my first grow, hooray :)

The strain I've chosen is Sour Diesel (Royal Queen Seeds, unless you can recommend better?...)

I am basically looking for any help from someone with more experience (especially experience with SD) to give me a realistic idea of how much 1 plant can smell. I am in the middle flat with neighbors above, below and next door... I hear that SD in particular is an intensely smelly plant, but it is deffinetly the one I would like to try! :)

The setup will be this:
80x80x180cm tent
NFT hydro tray
400W hps for flower + veg, plus coolshade
4" can fan intake
5" Rhyno hobby carbon filter
5" can fan RK125L outtake
Plus circ fans and other irrelevant bits and bobs
Maybe some ona gel scent scrubbers for the bedroom + little hallway during flower + harvest?

I am hoping to maintain negative pressure by having a stronger outtake forcing everything through the filter, how noticeable will the smell be around the house if there is a leak? Will the ona gel pick up the last of the scent? :P

Thanks for putting up with the remedial questions ;) lived with a friend who had his super iced grapefruit taken by old bill 1 week from harvest and I still mourn D:

Hi how are you, I have not grown the Sour Diesel but your setup looks on point, and you have a good handle on what your doing. I am 100% sure someone who has grown it can tell you how LOUD it will be lol, keep us posted sounds like a cool project. Peace, be safe MD.

Hi MD, I'm very well thank you!

Thanks, it's a great relief to hear you say so! Want to do as well as possible, can't wait to get some experience under my belt :)

Will perhaps upload a journal along the way as it would be very useful as well as good fun :)

Thanks again, all the best!

Make sure you use the Carbon filter right! All exhaust from the area through that filter! Don't overpower it!

OK great that makes good sense!
I think the outtake moves about 350m3 per hour and the filter is rates at 500m3 per hour, am I right in saying that it doesn't matter that the filter has a higher cfm rating?

Removing the intake is a good idea in regards to the odor control, do you think the 1 fan has the power to refresh the air every minute or so? Humidity and temperature are a bit of a worry for me.. maybe I could covery the intake with a screen to keep pressure negative without losing too much airflow?.. or am I worrying about nothing :P

Just use your carbon filter. I use nothing however I only grow 1 plant and I have no filter or anything and it doesnt get too smelly.

Really from what I've seen.. You're not gonna get that typical funk aroma till late in flower.. I mean I'd use a filter if I had one but you only have to worry about smells for like the last 4 weeks of flower.

Ohhh btw.. I think one of the best things you can do is to keep your temps on the lower end of acceptable.. The higher your temps get the more it will smell. Even with a little higher temps I only get hit with a funk smell when i first open the door.

If you're very worried about odor there are some strains that wont smell much at all even in deep flowering.

I got a SD cross and it is LOUD in all phases veg/bloom. That diesel smell is strong. That's why it's in my top 3. ;-)
Sorry didn't read any of that up there. Kepp tent neg pressured and scrub out and you will be fine.
I have been known to move 1500+ cfm.

Excellent, exactly what I wanted to hear :) I'll make sure everything passes through the filter and hopefully all will be fine! Thanks for the good info!

I will deffinetly keep the temp on the low side if possible, do you think a 400w hps with a cool shade will be cool enough with airflow alone? Will run it from/to the window but not too sure how to get it any lower without an AC!

Aha! Have to say the stench is part of the reason I'm drawn to it!

Can I trouble you for any more advice on this strain in particular? I hear it can be tricky at time's so any little tips would be great fully received :)

The one I have and run clones from is a pain in da arse. But I keep in in stock. She loves her nutes. Needs more N during bloom than most as for the stretching. Don't miss it's p/k bump(s) either, she is unforgiving to the unattentive.

Grows big smells like a beautiful fuel, sticky as hell and requested by many, so they say. ;-P

Keep that sheet far away from the flower room.

this was a stinkin bitch, lemons and kerosene.
i should have fed her heavier early on, by the time i got on it i had to dose the hell out of her with cal mag and she never quite caught up. still awesome weed and a good yield, just could have been better if i hadn't let it get started to begin with

Cooler temps effect yield and quality in a negative way during lights on hrs.

Okay great thank you very much :) managing the nutes seems like it could be tricky (as I say Im totally new to this!)
The plan was to start just on the low side of the recommended NPK and creep up until she is just about taking all she can handle... maybe a silly question but if she needs more N P and K then will I need the PK boost or will she be happy with a bit extra NPK formula? The NPK I have is 1-3-5

As I understand nutrient burn is both more common and harder to remedy than nutrient defficiency so I want to avoid giving her too much :P

As for the ona gel I will deffinetly keep it away from the plant! There is a room between the plants room and the rest of the house so I will put them there :)

Man that looks gorgeous! If I get anywhere near that I'll be delighted xD mind if I ask a few questions about your setup?...
What light are you using for flowering? Looks beautifully frosty!!
Which breeder did you get the seed's from? Looking at royal queen but I've heard mixed reviews
How tall is she? I hear SD can easily reach 1.6m but that looks way more manageable!
Thanks mate :)

400 watt hps one day, 200 watt led the next, back and forth.
not positive, that was either from nirvana or seedsman.....my memory is bad but it was one or the other.
it was about 40 inches tall from the top of the pot, i could have let it get quite a bit bigger but was kind of hurting for room and needed to move it when it was only about 18 inches tall. so it at least doubled in about 2 weeks
and she was hungry, i should have fed her more early on. keep her fat and happy if you go with SD

If you get your hands on real deal sour D it is fan-fucking-tastic... I dont know much about royal queen seeds.

Im still learning brother. I've only done 4 grows. I was just talking temps in terms of smell. So you're saying a lights on temp of 86 is better than 76?

yes, about 85 in the daytime is perfect, 70 at night. thats my opinion anyway. as long as you have good circulation and the plants are watered regularly, my plants seem to like this a lot
it takes till mid afternoon to get that hot, then i crank up the fans and drop it a little in the afternoon. when the lights go out, the ac in the house drops the tent down to about 70 after about 2 hours, and also drops the humidity about 5 points.
