soul

Do any of you believe you have a soul?
I think this is a question all you scientific types should ask of yourselves. If you answer no, then are you just a smart chimp, or do you believe that the human "spirit" exists and sets us apart from the animals? If you answer yes, does that mean there is a diety?

From Wikipedia, soul:

In many religions and parts of philosophy, the soul is the immaterial part of a person. It is usually thought to consist of one's thoughts and personality, and can be synonymous with the spirit, mind or self.[1] In theology, the soul is often believed to live on after the person’s death, and some religions posit that God creates souls. In some cultures, non-human living things, and sometimes inanimateobjects are said to have souls, a belief known as animism.[2]
The terms soul and spirit are often used interchangeably, although the former may be viewed as a more worldly and less transcendent aspect of a person than the latter.[3] The words soul and psyche can also be treated synonymously, although psyche has relatively more physical connotations, whereas soul is connected more closely to metaphysics and religion.[4]

I dont believe in souls. You dont think monkeys have souls, yet you believe in evolution? Hmm at what point did humans recieve souls and why did monkeys not get them?

I'm a Christian, But who am I to question creation or how it happened Evolution or "Magic" doesn't matter to me. That said there is something to be said about Animism. I think All living things have a "soul" the "breath of life" Given to them by their creator. That doesn't mean I'm gonna stop eating Beef. I am thankful to God for the Cow and Respect to the noble Animal that died so I may live. Doesn't mean I worship Animals or the Earth.

That's the problem with humans, we invent things like souls to justify our raping of the planet. It's ok to kill everything around me, I have a soul......

It depends how you define soul.

I think people just see the same things differently.

What one defines with concrete science and reason another defines with arbitrary mysticism and nearly baseless foundations.

In a concrete sense I would say I have no soul. In a mystic sense or metaphorically, a soul being the summation of my ideas, thoughts, motives, anticipations, desires, knowledge, and intelligence... yes I have that soul.

There are no gods. Really. Think about it. Omni-what being times how many and he/she/it can't even make he/she/it-self known?

Brother, please! Men create gods. Never the other way.

I disagree...

Though I can't really say that I believe in a Soul, not in the sense that the Church believes in a Soul.

I don't believe that I'm going to go to Heaven for being a Saint..

or go to Hell for being less than one.

I do however see part of the world where Science just doesn't seem to have any answers. Mostly all the Ghost Stories floating around.

Tales of the dead lingering and sending messages, and communicating.

There's too many for them all to be complete bunkum...

Of course, I haven't had any personal experiences with ghosts, but I do know people that I trust that say they have.

If there's not a soul, then what are ghosts?

Ghosts? Figments of one's imagination. Fiction.

I've had a few times where people tried to tell me their 'ghost story'(personal experience) and most of the time I flat-out tell them I think they're lying... if I'm in the mood I probe(question) them for clarity, and their story falls apart. Many eventually admit they're 'just kidding'. Two even told me that his(both were males) aim was to see if I was gullible(one guy used this exact word) enough to believe it.

I've only had one or two people out of perhaps over a dozen stick to their claim(less than 20%).

If cows and pigs could beg for their life, would we still eat them?

No, I don't believe in a soul. I feel a 'soul' is used to explain the path way from earth to the after life.

Very hard to explain how a rotting body get's to the underworld, heaven ect ect without a soul. If you ask me, it's a pretty lame answer how one gets there.

it justifies the means.

Well as someone who believes that God exist I still wonder what the difference between spirit and soul is? as for the treatment of other animals such as cows or pigs if i had to slaughter them i would be a vegetarian because i feel like they suffer too. I do eat meat however but i don't go out and torture animals and i have never hunted for the sport of it. :peace:
