Some questions about Michigan outdoor growing

  • Hi, I recently moved to Michigan and got my med card. I am new to all of this, it was illegal where I was from. Anyways, I have a few questions.

First, does a balcony on the 2nd floor outside count as an enclosed, locked facility? The only entrance to the balcony is from my bedroom, which is locked. The plants are outside, not visible to anyone, and can even be LST'ed to be under 3 feet, never visible. Does this sound ok?

Second, I planted my 12 plants Monday and Tuesday, they were sprouts that had germinated a couple days prior. Now, am I way too late? I understand ideally I should have planted in May or early June, but I just got here. So, I am working with what I have.

I have started some pictures, and am thinking about creating a grow journal of some sorts.

One more question, does Michgan's 12 plant limit count clones and for instance, bagseed where half the plants will be males, are you allowed to plant 24 and discard the males until you have 12?

i have never run outdoor plants but im pretty up on the laws. the cops dont care if your plants are male or female, you get 12 at a time. your balcony is not a legal place to grow as the plants need to be fully enclosed, that means all 4 side plus the top. I know that enclosing the top of an outdoor grow seems unreasonable but that is how the law is writen. it sounds like your growing in an apartment\condo complex. what are you gonna do when all your neighbors can smell your crop? as the law is currently writen coupled with the lack of social acceptability, I wouldnt grow outdoors unless I owned enough land to get lost.

Hey thanks for the response. I want to know though, time wise, am I too late? I live in a house on 1 acre, I just prefer to have them on my balcony. My neighbors are also houses and are far away. I said it was NOT visible, no matter how mature the plants get, I can keep it NOT visible. My neighbors also grow marijuana. also, I am putting a screen on top, so it would be enclosed in a sense. I think I am legal, then again I am no lawyer.

Can someone answer, is July 15 too late to plant outdoors in Michigan?

No, it is not too late if you are starting with mature plants. Your plants would end up small if starting from seed. Your plants need to be fully enclosed as stated above.

I think you're rolling the dice. Where you're growing them needs to be enclosed on all sides and locked. Theoretically someone could prop a ladder up against your balcony and gain access to the plants. The chances of getting popped are relatively low imo, but if LEO were to sniff out your grow I think you'd be in some legal trouble.

You can always grow in enclosed green house or even a Shed with that plastic glass that lets light in but you can't make out what's inside, just add a carbon filter exhaust that shit like you would a tent neighbors won't smell shit if you do it right...
but don't even think about tryin that shit in a complex balcony lol

Hey Bro at that size its too late for you to plant as you might and I stress the word might get some little nugglets.

i understand, but at the same time, i have nothing to lose. i'm obviously not relying on this for my smoking needs, i get wax and half ounces very week so this is more for fun. it's two different strains, i grew out one of them last year indoors and it got me in a lot of trouble! anyways, this is a nice experiment to see how late planting will do. if they grow until october, that is still a substantial amount of growing.

i have invested $6.33 in this grow, so anything will be a plus!

That's not enough direct light, take em inside n veg em for a month n flower indoors.

well that's not going to happen, they are outdoors for a reason. anyways, from my googling, it seems 4 hours minimum is enough. i'm sure 6 hours will be plenty, i saw a few grow journals that had less light and impressive results. also, seems late july planting can also bring me OK yields, according to some grow journals on grasscity.

there is hope!

It was common and still is to some degree , for some growers annually to begin on the 4 th of July outside . The mission is to stay low and grow very small plants that are much less able to be detected . Beans and fresh rooted clones are both used although the clones will not have a tap root , so bury them deep .

You may have seen someone on the net yield something small n decent but its far from ideal. I have. Been growing outdoors for almost ten years..when mid - late August hits the sun sits lower in sky n gets further away. You will get very airy buds. Put em on the roof n give em full sun.

I say go for it, you've already started so you've got nothing to lose. If you can keep them happy until harvest you have potential for some good results. Plenty of people grow indoors from seed on a 12/12 light cycle and turn out some pretty decent little plants.

i agree, i'm definitely going to go through with it. the first picture is one strain, one week old, the second picture is a different strain at 6 days old. week old.jpg6 days old.jpg

i transplanted them to their final pots, not that big but i don't expect these plants to get huge. i drilled some extra holes in the bottom because my dumb ass used garden soil and not potting soil.

alot of the plants had roots to the bottom of the red plastic drinking cups, which is pretty wild considering it's been a week only, they grow up so fast. the total cost with two bags of soil and all my planters so far is around $30, i will add another $10 for some nutes soon.
