Some buds have gotten moldy. please help

So Im in my 12th week in flower, and I noticed my top colas were drying out. When I got a closer look they were moldy in the centers of them.

What caused this?

This has happened to a couple of buds on my last grow also. My buds are getting bigger and denser. Is this common when buds get this dense? The top colas have been getting as wide as small water bottle.

I dont mist, humidity is in the 50's and airflow seems to be okay.

some strains are more likely to get mold...and those are huge colas...really crank the airflow...humidity is a bit high...maybe get a de-humidifier? I haven't had that problem so I'd not consider me the be all end source of knowledge...I just stopped in to make sure that you weren't planning on smoking it. ;P

Also have a look around for a product additive that has silica in it, this will help with dense buds to reduce the rates of bud rot. Silica is naturally found in organic soils especially in volcanic areas.

Also, if you have really dense buds, you can induce bud mold by flushing them, which is common during the last 2 weeks of bloom. Funny, but I never seen that mentioned on this site. I learned that from the guy who taught me how to grow, and he wasn't some kid growing a few plants in his closet, he was a pro the grew for about 10 years, large scale.(yep, I trust him.lol) He wouldn't flush his plants til the last 2 days, because he had a few experiences with bud mold. Then eventually, he had it down to a science where he wouldn't flush at all.(keep in mind that he was selling, not smoking) Anyway, I flush mine early, at about week 4, right before the buds get really dense, and it has been working out great. And if I have time, I also flush them 2-3 days before harvest, which likely helps a bit with the taste.

So...beware of the flush!
