So I'm a newbie so be gentle but. I'm starting my very first outdoor grow I got 5 seeds doing well in ffof and I jus got some clones also in soil. But Im kinda tight on money as of right now and know coco is cheaper and there is more of it. Bit when I transplant to bigger pots or in the ground would coco be a good idea or shoul I jus wait it out an extra week or 2 to get enough soil?

psh gentle we dont do gentle here
great post very informative way to not clutter up this already cluttered site with more... clutter. seriously bravo no sarcasm here. anyways coc has many advantages over soil. 1 it is inert and will not contain bugs pests etc. 2 it has a perfect water retention capability. 3 it is cheaper. 4 it can be reused. don't transplant into more coco as it expands very much when water is added. add some coco to your planter first, the plantar you choose to use all grow, then plant a seed / clone in the coco. obviously if youre using a clone it will be in a rockwool cube or peat pod so transplanting that directly into your main plantar will reduce future transplant shock you would have had. also if your planting from seed I would recommend a peat pod, rockwool cube oasis cube etc for your initial planting. there is one disadvantage to coco and that is it is inert meaning you need to add nutrients in your initial waterings so they will be broken down in time for the apical meristem to open. this is only true for organic fertilizers but I cant imagine someone using miracle grow with coco its almost blasphemy

also I find its easier to water the plantar filled with coco before planting the rockwoll cube/ peat pod. this way it expands to its fullest and you wont have any surprises

Me and by friends have been using sunshine mix 4 for years. Fox farms is too expensive in my eyes, and with the sunshine 4, there are no nutes so you control them. Growing in a 15 gallon smartpot outside with ffof will kill you $$$ wise, were it costs less than 10 bucks a pot with sunshine 4.

What if mixin the 1 1/2 bags of ffof into coco would that be ok? Or should I stick with one or the other and also I have 3 holes I'm planting 3 clones in and I'm planting 3 or 4 more clones plus whatever seedlings are female In pots probably 10-15 gallon what do you think? I'm also not trying to throw away hundreds ok expensive soil either

Go with the coco if your on a budget, lots of people do coco and r not on a budget, amazing medium. Try not to use miracle grow. Spend a little on the nutes.

place coco brick in tub bucket etc, add water, break up with hands, mix with fox farm. you can mix it with soil no problem a lot of times people will layer it 2 inches of dirt 2 inches of coco etc put mixing it is fine. it acts as a wick it has water retention properties similar to vermiculite.on another note the enter button stopped working

figuge you need ATLEAST a bag for each 15 gal, thats 20-25 bucks of soil each. Outrageously priced

I never understood buying soil for outdoor grows. I wanted to help this guy since he already has his heart set on growing with ocean forest and coco but there really is no need unless theres nothing but clay for miles. even soil with tons of rocks in it is good for outdoors .

I usually wash and buffer the coco. It may be a good idea to do a 50-50 mix of soil to coir then add 1/4 part perlite to your mix. If I didn't have nutes I would top dress with ffof every 1-2 weeks and water in the nutes
