Soil trouble..

I am growing my first legitimate plant, ive tried growing plants twice before but dropped shit on them and broke them. But i was wondering in a coffee tin container was a big enough size for a plant. I never filled up the soil to the top and i dont plant to grow the plant very high only a foot or two..
im also wonder whats the best way to put nitrogen into the soil, because im worried i dont have enough. I read adding coffee grinds into the soil is a good source of slow released nitrogen, but i didnt add alot because it causes the PH of the soil to go up and i dont want that.
thanks for the time.

You can grow in a coffee can or anything else, just keep your expectations realistic. Roots will quickly fill this container - remember, in addition to your veg time, you will be flowering for probably at least 8 weeks. Once your root ball is full, you'll be watering daily.
Don't use coffee grounds for a fertilizer. There are lots of inexpensive fertilizers available. I'm sure many won't agree with me, but i use Miracle Grow throughout veg, and feed every time i water. My plants are bushy ;) and its cheap .
Good luck

Thanks, as this is my first plant i dont think im gonna grow it out very large re-gardless plus i dont have a large space to grow its quite tiny.
Because im growing in a coffee container what height should i grow it out to before i should start flowering?

I'll throw another vote in there for MG fert. I used it for my first couple grows and it worked great. The trick is, to not add too much. I was using 1/4 tsp, about every 5-7 day, after i started feeding them, at about 3 weeks(they are pretty big by then, 12+"). If you want to keep them as small as possible, you better start flowering them early.(not yet, maybe around 8") You should check out some other peoples' grows and see what they did, then adjust for your own purposes. Typically, most plants will at least double their heigth during the beginning of bloom, some triple,(especially sativa-dominant strains) so use that as a guide. :)

Almost forgot....I agree with the above, that that coffee can will fill with roots quickly, so if you're going to use it, make sure it's as full with soil as possible. Then keep up on the watering and feeding, and it's totally possible to grow a nice small plant with a decent yield.

a coffee container proboly wont work,,you need to decide how long you want to veg and how long you are going to flower..the plant needs 1 gallon of soil for every month it is growing ex. a plant that is vegged for 1 month and flowered for 2 months need 3 gallons of soil....however if you have already put the sead in coffee can it is ok to start the seed in but you must have several holes in the bottom for water drainage or it will cause root rot...once you see strong white root ball at bottom of coffee can you need to transplant or you plant will no longer grow....

your plant might not stay short and bushy if you dont have enough drainage holes in your coffee tin.the roots will never recieve much needed oxygen and rot rendering your nutrients useless ,or even more important is enough light, thats the main factor in short and bushy.good luck

I will agree that it's alot tougher to grow in a small container, but it's totally do-able. It's just alot more difficult to keep up with the water and nute requirements, with over or under-doing it. More soil = a larger buffer zone, and more room for mistakes. A coffee can has plenty of room for the root mass of a 2' plant, but it will be crowded, no doubt.

okay thanks for the help everyone.
but for the coffee container, how much holes should i have? i put some in before even germinating my seed.
and ill probably flower aroung 8-10 inches because im not looking for massive yeild i just wanna get as much exspirence with
growing before i get extremely serious.

Coffee can? Seriously...there are cheaper, better ghetto alternatives. Even a sawed off 2 liter bottle would be better. I wouldn't want heavy metal seeping into my medium. Whatever. Make sure you put enough drain holes in what you use, and don't use Miracle Grow, it's low quality. Jack's Classic is $5 for a quart and some great stuff.
