Soil Test Results

I am missing compost right now. I started pure leaf compost last October and it is going painfully slow, as is my worm bed... I should stop by your thread again and see how you boost your micro-herd. It was very interesting but I was never able to get past the micro/trace deficiency. School of hard knocks over here...

You said that your GRD is rick in Fe, but what I need is a boost in Mn, Zn, and Cu.
I made the mistake of not shredding my 2-3 tonnes of leaves this past fall too. SMH, lol, slow times there as well..

I definitely share a few of my tricks on the thread though, as always.

Regarding your Mn, Zn, and Cu, though, you might be happy to hear that the GRD has all of those as well.

Not in the 40,000 ppm range like Fe can reach, but nice and present nonetheless.

Curious how you run your worm farm.. I always find mine to be quite fast! I moved just over 6 months ago, and already have 2 extra bins of 100 litres each, finished and refined, nice and full spectrum.. all made from juicing scraps. Which might help up my turnover now that I think about it, being so broken down by the juicer.. but yeah, lots in the soil already too.. had 3 fresh strong totes / big bins full before I mixed up some living soil, it only took 2 months or so!

EDIT: You can also add Zn rich foods to your worm farm, to counter Zn deficiency .. or any deficiency..
for example, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, are the highest two sources! Along with chick peas, lentils and beans..

Little update on the garden....things are progressing nicely. Plants appear to be hungry again as they are beginning to lighten up a bit, too early for that?(7/21 flip date). Just in time as I had planned to apply another top dressing tomorrow. Going to go with a mix of EWC, leaf mold, kelp, fish bone meal and some malted barley powder. I’m using a local companies fish bone meal with a 5-11-0 NPK value, hopefully the nitrogen will darken things back up before they begin to fade out naturally.

Looks like I may have lucked out with a purple pheno of the ninja fruit. Never grown a real purple strain so pretty excited, something different at least.

Almost can't tell that you had a problem to begin with! My problem was a little more advanced because I was dealing with it longer. I feel like you are a step ahead of me now!!! I've been dealing with this problem for so long that I was making flower beds out of my used soil. They are showing micro problems, but I understand what it is now. So, hopefully next years veggie garden will look much better and my potting soil will stop kill everything!

Your a step ahead of me! I think that I let my deficiency run too long... I sure hope that we have this figured out!!! I thought that my soil was good to go, so I started a couple of seed packs and had very poor germination rates and they just look horrible! Anyways, I mixed more soil and I have another test kit on hand... I am going to run a lot of water through the soil before I have it tested this time, my sulfur and sodium were very high last time.

If you posted pics of your plants I can’t see them stang. Hope you’re making out ok. My soil seems to have come around during this grow. Although the branches and bud sites directly under the two lights, therefore receiving the most light, are loosing there color a bit. I applied my top dress yesterday so hoping that will help keep things green.

Funny, you didn't mention the ironite until I pointed out the micro def!!! It is exactly the same problem that you and wackatoo couldn't help me with. You guys were fucking useless! You had this poor kid eating your B.S until I pointed out what was wrong... Enjoy eating your crow old man!

I use dolomite lime for pH buffering and that is considered and added totally separate from any other amendments or minerals. Not part of any "mineral mix", or, used in conjunction with anything else. My pH ends up ~ 6.7-6.8.

Unbuffered peat has a Ph in the low 4's and if you add peat you WILL need to lime it and of course perlite to aerate.

I don't think that GS offers any buffering at all and neither does any other rock dust, or gypsum. You need calcium carbonate for buffering (gypsum is calcium sulfate). It's a chemical reaction that only the carbonate form of Ca performs.

I tried to "fix" my too dense mix with poor results and what I ended up doing was using that mix as my mineral input by adding a gallon or two to fresh mixes. I had added 6cups/cf, so a gallon or so gave me more than enough RD. A good bit also went on my raised bed gardens. I had mixed a bit over 10cf.

It was a real PITA and took some time, but still way easier than trying to fix the too dense mix by adding stuff or cutting it. The mix was fine other than too much RD, so adding a gallon or 2 to fresh mix didn't throw other amounts off.

Besides the GS there is also kelp meal, which will provide all the mineral inputs needed all by itself. The GS and kelp meal compliment each other with a fast/slow release deal and has always worked well for me. The RD was redundant using both of those and not missed. LOL, GS is the "Old School" mineral input and after ~10 years of using it *I* consider it superior to any RD that I've used. But, that's just my opinion.

Just a reminder, this was Wetdog's remedy to the situation. Greensand and kelp. I think that everyone was already using kelp and then he tells you to skip the rock dust. Later, he says to use Azomite because he doesn't believe that having aluminum in your soil is a bad thing!

I'm done giving out advice, ask wetdog! Why are your plants fading... Let him lead you down a dark alley and fuck you

Your top dress should do you just fine.

No experience with fish bone meal, but I do do a top dress of bone meal and EWC just before or right at the flip and have noticed that the small amount of N in the bone meal provides enough N to keep the early fading to a minimum. After that, it's pretty much just water only and let the plant consume it's reserves till chop.

They're looking good!

Awesome, I was hoping that you would say this!!! You have no fucking clue to what is going on old man! You keep leading this kids down a dark alley so that you can fuck them, good for you. I'll stand out of the way and just watch.

No, that fade is going to get worse. Please, tell him that he needs more phosphorus and nitrogen lol.

This is pure gold. I couldn't mislead someone that badly even if I wanted to, I have moral issues with it.

Honestly, I was thinking the same way as Wetdog before I started to have my soil tests done. Funny shit, he claims to have 30yrs exp and he is still don't know what he is doing!

All that I want you to do is remember what Wetdog taught you, keep it in mind as your plants continue to fade... After that, you might feel the same way that I do about him. The dude is leading you in the wrong direction! I'm not asking that you listen to me either, but do your own research and don't cast your soil test results to the side. That soil test is way more viable than anything anyone in this forum has to say!!!
