heres what ive done this summer with my soil. i was having trouble with airation and compaction with the soil available (yard dirt). its florida sand/ silt, pretty fertile and healthy... peppers and tomatos go wild in the ground... but compacted too much when put in pots. i cant afford perlite... i know its cheap, buts so is chicken... and id rather eat. yeah, times are that fucking bad, but thats another story.
heres what i did... good idea? ...you tell me.
i collected last years coconuts, took a victoronox and a whetstone and i cut/ shredded/chunked about 20 of them (nevermind the time it took...forever!!!) this coco matter i layered in with my native soil in 5 gallon mud buckets w/ a 2 inch hole cut in the bottom. i read to use a little epsom salt to offset the potassium from the coco husk. so thats what i did.
my results seem to be absolutely stunning. im in my 9th week of flower and it looks pretty good so far.

am i a genius or an idiot? i welcome comments is there anything i should know about coco... i am a noob

if its workin i say keep it up....i dont see any problem withthe coconuts....i used to have some stuff for my terrarium (like artificial[not right word] saw chips) in my pots that was made of mostly coconut shavings (the brown part)

as long as thats not all u have it there i think it works in a mix...just check ur ph/ppm
 
dont have the resources to check the ph... kinda flying blind here. just super easy on the nutes and i use rain water. tomatos and peppers are all good. its not ideal, but its all i got right now
 
i hear ya...i dont have a meter myself....just hydro ph..... i do alot like u do....dont feed them tell they tell u they need it.....
 
I am stuck on cant afford perlite. its like 3.99 a bag for the year, or 50 plants I want some 3.99 Chickens.. Maybe we can meet and trade :)
 
i can get a whole chicken for 4 bucks... and your talking that 2 gallon bag at home depo aint you... i need 3 of them... and if you really want to get cheap you can float it out of the soil when you are done and reuse it. i should have 2 of them coming to me as i type this because i traded a clone for them... too late now cause its not like im going to dig them up and replace the soil

i wish... im completely dry here... looking at my signature pic in real life... 9 weeks in and still to early to even steal a lower bud and bulb dry it
 
i dont know how to post pics... and i want to real bad... computers are beyond me. im like 10 years too old for them to be second nature to me ... i need to find a 5 year old to help me...lol
i can do avatars and signatures and profile pics... but not post pics... im missing something, but i dont know what it is
