Soil Ph Problem

I am an ebb and flow grower, but with temps in my area creaping to 90+ degrees outside and i grow in my garage that reaches almost 10 degrees hotter ive decided to do a couple of soil grows to get me to the cooler months.I followed a friend of mines directions on making just a peat 2/3 and perlite 1/3 combination. My problem is my soil runoff is 3.5 using flora nova grow chemicals.Ive been researching how to adjust the soil ph without having to repot my plant.I read in some other forum to add the ph of the nute solution before its poured and the runoff after pouring then divide by 2 to get an average ph.The answer needs to be somewhere from 6.2-6.5.As of right now ive added nutes at ph 8 and runoff is 3.5.doing the math above i get ph 5.75.So if i bumped my nutes to ph 9 i should average out to 6.25.
I have two questions.First,am i on the right track?
and second, will my soil ph rise after doing this for a period of time?

First raising your ph solution will not change the ph of your soil. I would recommend getting some dolomite lime and adding it to the mix. It will buffer the ph to around 6.5. Your problems with low ph will even get worse as the peat breaks down and becomes more acidic

1 cup dolomite lime to every 1 cubic foot of soil... Plus most hydroponic ferts are ph'd low anyways so their just gonna add to the problem.. If the problem continues then you'll probably see lockout around the first 2 weeks of flowering if not sooner

Adjusting the nute/water pH is temporary at best, and will not raise your soil pH with any permanence.

You will need to add dolomite lime, or garden lime, or similar (NOT hydrated), to raise and stabilize your soil's pH. This is true with any peat based mix.

Best if added to the mix before use, but you can top dress with it. *I* use 2tbl/gallon of mix, or 1cup/CuFt. Give it a couple of weeks to work, especially as a top dress. One application usually does the trick.

It will fix it, but it is far from 'instant', be patient.

well the guy who is kinda showing me what to do has benn growing like this for the last four years. He mixes 5 gallons at a time and a capfull of ph up.and he goes and waters. He doesnt even use a ph tester of any kind. His plants are for the most part pretty healthy. So there has to be something to just raising the ph a little higher over pulling out my plants and mixing in lime and repoting

hey you asked how you could fix this problem, im guessing you wouldn't be on here asking if his method really worked.. good luck dude hope everything works out for you. PS and a capfull of ph up is going to absolutely do NOTHING to change the ph of the soil..TELL HIM HE IS DOING IT WRONG

A top dressing is better for me then a repot. In the mean time should i adjust my nute ph to the usual 6.2 - 6.5 during this top dressing application or keep with the higher ph and measure runoff adjusting as needed?

I would lean toward 6.5 and topdress, when I said mix it in the soil, I meant when your making your soil. If you wanna add to you pots like wet said just sprinkle on top of soil and water.

I ask because my freind is not scientific at all about it.He found a way that works. The best he could do was show me what he does.Im here asking because i want a better understanding of why it works. And if hes wrong why does his plants grow?
P.S. who the hell are you to tell anyone they are wrong when it works? And i never asked anyone to fix any problem just wanted to know if im on the right track

dude if you think I'm gonna argue with you on this matter then your wrong.. did you notice that wet said the exact same thing as me?? If you wanna get froggy on here then we can, I was just trying to help you!! But now since you think your gonna talk shit get help from someone else. O and one more thing. I KNOW FOR A SCIENTIFIC FACT THAT ONE CAPFUL OF PH UP OR DOWN IS NOT GONNA HAVE ANY EFFECT ON 5 GALLONS OF SOIL!!! AND I KNOW THIS FOR A SCIENTIFIC FACT!!!! You friend is wrong and I am right

Well, a big pH shift is not the best thing either (pH 8-9).

I would do the top dress, and just do your normal (6.2-6.5) pH until the lime kicks in. After that, the Ph of what goes in shouldn't matter, the lime will buffer it to the mid 6's or so.

I don't pH anything anymore, and I dump stuff from the high 4's to 8 or so with no ill effects.

who the hell said anything about 5 gallons of soil jackass.a capful of ph in the soil?for real ? you spout off what everyone else says about having low "SOIL" ph. add lime add lime oh and of coarse you and your freind are wrong (Love that one haha) You come blowing in here, dont even read or comprehend the question, and im the bad guy.I never ounce asked for help in any problem only asked to review my formula and is it on the right track.I didnt ask about lime or any other buffers for the soil.Apearently you never ever saw the big picture of the situation.I want to know why this works, and this does work ive seen it and im living it right now.I add phb up to my water till its 9 pour it on and the plant moves 1/2 inch upward new growth and all.So Im telling you

but isnt that basically doing the same thing.By mixing lime and making the soil one set ph you dont allow for a drift (which is benificial to the plant).and you dont have to ph your water and your plants love it im sure..I dont use lime and i ph my water and they are growing. Now i know that the drift i got going on seems drastic but these plants are growing and have been for some time.Im just trying to find out why. i have a theory but everyone keeps telling me i need to add lime.I want to know how and why this way works when everyone is telling me its wrong.

Ok im not trying to fix my soil,I just want someone to give me a scientific bassis as to why a plant will grow in acidic soil and if i keep doing this will the ph of my soil go more nuetral, not in hopes that it will fix itself.I know this will not happen.Just to know if i should keep monitoring the runoff and adjusting my ph with the formula i presented in the first post.
So please stop with the lime replies. As of right now im not going to add lime im going to grow in a very acidic soil.and even if its your own theory please im all ears.Ive learned most of what i know about this through trial and error.
But these plants are growing,in nothing more than peat and perlite.Everyone thinks i want the easy way out.to the contrary im want to go headstrong into the fire and understand the botany behind this, even if its not the "correct" way
Peace everyone

Get some ProMix or Sunshine mix and put as much in as you can and work it in with you fingers, u will feel the roots that way and not damanage to many. Don't worry if you bust a few no big deal. The ProMix is 7.0 +

Using Lime at this point will do more harm than good, lime burns that's why you let it age.

pH up your solution till you get the ProMix and things will be fine. IMHO
