About the super soil, I should have said I am not a fan of a new growers making a super soil, starting with a soil in the mid range of hot and going water only and allowing a plant to develop normal deficiencies in veg like nitrogen and magnesium the most common ones with in a good soil mix will improve their growing skills much faster IMO.

Anyway, the above is just my opinion.

Here is 2c more.

Not directed to anyone just a general opinion directed toward newer growers.

Does anyone disagree that with a good soil being given water only the two most common deficiencies in veg are nitrogen and magnesium?

The plant will show the deficiency in the lower fan leaves because the plant will steal those nutrients from them unless the new grower sadly chose to defoliated those lower green fan leaves.

If the new grower focuses on two things, the difference between a nitrogen deficiency and a magnesium deficiency and can tell the difference then the fix is easy.

A small dose of epsom salt in water will quickly fix a mag def.

Several ways to stop a Nitrogen deficiency.

Small dose of fish emulsion works fast along with a top dressing of Bio Live that will carry the plant for at least 3 weeks.

Small doses of blood meal or a high N bird or bat guano will work fast to restore N.

EWC are an excellent addition to the above and will cure most ill's by themselves especially if they are fresh castings created by the grower.

3 or 4 weeks later another top dressing with EWC kelp meal and Bio live or other balance dry amendment will get the grower 3 or 4 weeks further.

An occasional watering of seaweed extract can be beneficial to a soil grow.

New growers would be better off not using molasses.

Of course none of this matters without properly watering the soil and having a good environment.
Many new growers don't seem to realize how much calcium they are putting into their custom mixes.
Bone meal, bat guano, seabird guano, rock phosphate, crab, etc all have LOTS of calcium.

A little langbeinite or epsom is usually better than dolomite for heavily amended soils.
Just sayin'...

Hello Green Guruz,

need advice on a soil mix.
Here are the items I can get my hand on:

Organic potting soil with cow fertilizer.
Organic earthworm fertilizer.
Organic animal & plant fertilizer compost.
Humic acid fertilizer.
Sea fertilizer(sea weed, blood fert., carbon, ammonia acid, carbohydrates, yucca extract, NPK 16,16,16).
Perlite.
Vermiculite.
Fertilized peat moss.
Epsom salt.
Seaweed extract.
Mulch.
I can buy any liquid Nutes online, but these are the only items I can get my hand on.
Order soil online isn’t an option coz it will ship overseas (weight shipping cost will exceed the product cost by 3x).
Where u from, generally peaking

The only unknown is the composition of the worm castings, so it's important to find a good source.
This is the main reason i am keeping the liquid fish and kelp nearby. I used the crap castings from home depot.
How well they work will be pretty obvious very soon.

The recipe isnt mine. Its an old soilless mix recipe from Lavender Cowboy at IC mag from years ago.
The biolive was my attempt to avoid all the blood and bone meal recommended in his recipe. I did stick to his dose of dolomite. Something like 2 tbs per gallon of soil.

If you’re making a soil keep it simple is best thing I’ve learned. Some of these recipes floating around the pot forums are insane, overkill and expensive. Good compost, bale of peat and some sort of cheap aeration. A buffering amendment, farmers have been using lime for 100’s of years with no issue. Then add only a couple of dry amendments and you’ll be on your way to success. I personally use crab meal, kelp, alfalfa and some rock dust as my only dry inputs at the moment. The key to all of this is having good fresh compost, preferably out of a pile somewhere(your own, local farm, municipality etc) and not a bag. Good luck man

I'm glad it is working for you. Fox Farm gets a bad rap because when they opened a second location things went bad for a while and I think most of that has been resolved.
Good choice to follow Budz.

To help the 1st thing we need to know is everything that is in the "Organic potting soil with cow fertilizer"

Is that a soil mix that will grow a plant without anything being added?

Knowing what is in it will give an idea of what could be added.
The biggest mistake made by new growers who mix there own soil is adding to many things.
I'm really not a fan of the super soil mentality.
KISS - Keep It Simple Stoner is the best way to learn to grow in soil.
The only info is,
potting soil with cow manure

I can't really help if I'm guessing what that soil is.
Others may have some ideas.

I can say what I would do if it was me.
I'd probably see if a plant will grow in the soil the way it's made.
If there is no aeration in the soil I'd add some perlite to the mix.
If the mix isn't hot you can amend it with additional EWC and maybe a balance fertilizer similar to DTE Bio Live.
You can also mix some small batches and test them.
Having bag seed or inexpensive seeds to practice would help.
Looks like you have everything needed to build a better soil with the exception of rock dust for minerals.
Any of the ones listed by Organicbudz would be useful like Glacial rock dust or Azomite.
Gypsum is good to have if you can find it.

Being able to buy a bag of quality soil pre made would be better for a new grower but that is not an option so I'll just follow and see what others suggest.
Good Luck!

Try this NO COOKING REQUIRED MIX .......... extremely easy to throw together in sealed tote.

19E2961E-82C5-4DE6-87CD-4DC03105F8F4.jpeg

No animal shit needed .... biosludge , rogue seeds in shit , or high levels of undetected salt. Or god damn micro organism from the poop.

Phase 2 Mix :

Even simpler mix ..... very good medium for containers.

3 Parts FoxFarm Happy Frog potting soil
2 Parts FoxFarm soil conditioner
Added Perlite ( plain )
1 Part worm castings
1 Part Humus ( general organics ) Ancient Forest - This is Magic !

Probably gonna do a thread on this one.

What if I can get my hands on plain regular potting soil.

Sure, almost any soil will grow good weed.

Avoid any bagged soils that say they feed the soil for 3 or 6 months, this works poorly with cannabis because they release nutrients slowly over a period of months. They usually do well in veg but poorly in flower for many people.

Find a soil with perlite if possible and avoid the ones that are heavily amended with wood chips. A small amount of wood chips in a soil is fine but some cheap ones over do it with wood chips because they are cheap.

If you can get the soil brands mentioned by Budzbuddha, fox farm ocean forest or fox farm happy frog that would be the way to go for a new grower. Just add 10 - 15% perlite and you would be good to go for 3 or 4 weeks having to do nothing but water the plant and focus on your environment.

Some growers do not like fox farm but budz, myself and many others have had success with it.
To give you an idea, a 1.5 cu ft bag of ffof in USD is $20 here and a cheap bag of soil goes for maybe $6.
If you can get it that's the way I'd go, others may have different ideas.
