Soil has white furr on - Pics

My seeds sprouted 12 days ago in my Bio Bizz Light Mix soil which I had pre-soaked in distilled water before they went in.

I have a make-shift grow tent at the moment which I had covered over with no air circulation going in, the soil has developed a layer of white furr scattered on the surface and also I can see some through the drainage holes at the bottom of the pots.

I have opened up the make shift grow tent to allow the plants to get fresh air and not too hot (currently sitting around 75'F) and with some luck this furr hasn't developed further. I will be picking up my grow tent this week with intake / exhaust fans so hopefully my plants will love their new environment!

I have included some pics of this furr - the Bio Bizz Light Mix soil has white nuggets in naturally so is quite hard to distinguish between them and the white furr in the pics but hopefully someone will know what this is and be able to help me sort this out?

Wild guess. Not enough ventilation. If its mold, it could make you sick. Be safe, and get a mask from the hardware store. Scrape off the top 1/2 to 1" of soil .

Spray with Neem oil solution and increase circulation and ventilation in room. What's your water regimen?

Yep Looks like some mold I had once.. Might want to go with another soil next time or watch your watering.. I'm thinking what i did when i got that mess is cover the top of your soil with some CLEAN play sand (1/4 to 1/2 in thick) this will block light and keep fungus nagts out.. Or try some foil wraped around the base, Just watch for hot spots.. Hope this helps ya .. Peace out....

Thanks for the pointers guys.. I scraped out about 1" of the mouldy soil from the tops and out of the drainage holes then let the soil breathe for a few hours, I then added some fresh soil on top ( i was going to do this anyway to give the stem more support) so hopefully this will resolve the mould issue as it is now more ventilated.

I think the reason for this starting was the soil was moist, the grow area was enclosed with no ventilation and the temp was too high - around 88'F!

With the soil fresh, the temp at a perfect 75'F and ventilation hopefully my plants will have a healthy environment to thrive.

Is this product purely for keeping mould / bacteria away? I was planning on using the Bio Bizz range but my plants are only almost 2 weeks into veg so not ready yet..

My watering regime has been so far - soak the soil before planting the germinated seeds, then gave them water about 5/6 days in as the soil was feeling lightly moist and watered them today after I scraped the soil away and added fresh soil on top. I will start adding 1/4 nutes in about a week.

Do you think I should still add sand to the top soil even after scraping away the mould and adding fresh soil on top? What will wrapping foil round the base of the pot do and what are hot spots?!

Thanks again :D
