Soil.....debate on brands.....and best

hello all my fellow growers


ummmm......my first 6 plants i did my own mix of soil (huge mistake way off yeilds effected greatly ) ...live and learn

to correct this i broke down and ordered soil from the net (my area there is not a local supplier for fox farms) well there is but it is famously known the cops write down the plates numbers and takes the trash from your place looking for a reason to do a warrent ................reason i did not before is all the places i looked up for the soil was charging for shipping and it was almost the same price for the bag i could not jusify the extra cost

i ordered

fox farms Ocean Forrest Soil -----3 gallon bags x2
Black Gold Soil ......4 gallon bags x2

i seen good reviews for both .......................now i ask u my fellow auto growers what do u think on the choices...........do u have any stories/woes/tweaks....................last part is the soil reclaimable or is it fill a hole dirt now/ order new bag

the plants this time i am going
biodiesel mass
trans siberian
blue mammoth

air bags 7gallon or 4 gallon .......i might just do 2 to ensure i have room for bush if i go with the 7 gallon (4x4x6)tent

if i do go 7 gallon is it good to mix both bags for each

I hear Pro Mix and sunshine mix #4 are spiffy

FfoF is good stuff, light warrior would of been good to mix with it.

Then theres always subcools super soil, i hear thats the cats meow

well that super soil sounds nice but the cost to do it well sell a plant and i could

right now everything i do for the plants is comming out of my meal funds .....right now i eat every 2 days ( a real meal meat patotoe salad)....have not even been running the still last month down to 2 gallons of shine left

so u are saying i should get some light warrior from fox farms to mix into what (black gold or ocean forrest )

Light warrior is meant for small clones and seedlings. Your good with what you chose. FFOF is notorious for being a little hot for young plants but it's not that big of an issue. Some just dont feed anything for 3-4 weeks and let the soil work its magic. Mix both brands or don't. If you keep them separate you can run a side to side comparison. Maybe some extra perlite(say 20-30%) should help with drainage and extra aeration.

Yeah a lot of growers used to say they mix 1:1

Dont have to though, just what i see people suggest

i was planning on going dwc .........but this last 2 days on soil has showen me i need to learn more if i go that route now it is sure death and a waste of funds

so this is as i see of this posting

one to go with what is in the bags (add nothing mix nothing) do a test on brands
one for keep the bags and add in perlite 15 20%
and jeff that is looking to see other ppls ideas

(please note i plant to do the jiffy plug method get it ready seed to plug......plug into middle of pot no light for 3 days light on 18/6 1 cup of water and walk away for 3 days)

Then keep it as simple as possible bud, soil is very forgiving. Do add perlite though, thats prob one of the reason people mix light warrior with FFoF because it has perlite in it already along with other beneficial stuff. Yeah its for seedlings but also for transplants and acts well as a medium when combined with other fertilizers. You could of saved a few bucks and just went with Miracle grow soil. Theres noting really wrong with, just gets a bad rap.

I came across this, subcool from TGA subcool seeds said it while talking about his super soil recipe.

The best results we’ve had to date using a well-known commercial soil has been with Fox Farms’ Ocean Forest soil combined in a 2-to-1 ratio with Light Warrior. Used on its own, Ocean Forest is known for burning plants and having the wrong ratio of nutrients, but when cut with Light Warrior, it makes a pretty good base-soil mix.

Fox farms ocean and happy frog with perlite works great. Several nurseries sell fox farm gear around here.

I like mixing the FF Ocean Forest and FF Happy Frog in a 50/50 mix seems to get me excellent results for autos last auto I grew I pulled 60+g off of it ... seems to work excellent to be honest with ya!

did u use any outside feedings or did u just let the soil do the work

I mix FoxFarm Ocean Forest, Perlite, and FoxFarm Light Warrior.

I never typically use any outside feeding for atleast the first 2.5 to 3 week mark, the plants let me know if they need food or not, but usually I don't have to feed until right at the 3 week mark!! check and out some of my grows man and see!!

i like to get a soil i can use for auto's and the only thing i need to add is maybe CalMag+ and some bloom booster/bud enhancer

i get over hyper and autos do not like that if i was a photo i could do a full does right now it is hit and miss ( i am about to go to full then slowwly lower it to see where the burn stops at then figure that is the maximum for it) ...........but that is stuip but needed

i was hoping there was a soil set out there i put into say a 7 gallon pot (2X what it needsfor full life)

never one of u sorry ............... u guys go by the rules and or soical acceptable acts ............i just do what i think is right fuck your rules and stuip ass laws (if i want to drive bare foot i do if i want to shop in the store bare foot i do .................hell i gone to the store in t-shirt and boxers only and my hat )...........i had to stop myself yeasterday ......getting gas this jack ass in a bmw pulls up and gets out and starts pumping gas with his engine on ......asked him to turn it off no it will be fine ( my urge said take the gas pump out of my car spray on his hood and then ask him is it ok now ) ....i just stopped the pump and left
