All the snake oil salesman are going to be pretty P'd off at your anti-advertising, UB! Here is one random guy you saved from money wasting. Where do i find UAN? Is there a more concentrated source of N than UAN, to keep my tomato leaves green til harvest?

I know learning takes experience, but are there any specific gardening/horticultural/botanical forums/guides/tips you would be so gracious to personally recommend?

I once took a whole crop of 9 plants to completion on a £1 bottle of tomato food from the pound store to prove a point to someone, lot tastier and stronger than anything my "professional" grower mates have ever kicked out lol

I am a newbie with low funds when I told my husband I was getting a new hobby he said you have a budget. I have invested most of it in HPS lights and fairly good soil. I read about MG being bad so I did not use that, I got a decent fert at home depot and use that. I ordered a loupe and other stuff but when I read things here I sometimes freak out that I need so much more than someone said to KISS and I felt better. I am going to upgrade the soil for the clones I am putting into veg and get a PH meter for next round. I use RO water and fert every week but not the full dose and I am doing ok so thank you for this post. I feel better.
Be sure and put him on a budget. A bud budget. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ANYTHING PH RELATED WHEN GROWING IN SOIL!!!!!!!

Remember - KISS! Growing since 1964. I have a couple of clues.

I know people that swear by shit like bud candy and different boosters and sweeteners. And they spend a shit ton of money on it too. Goes to show how strong the placebo effect has on the human mind. I've been smart enough to learn a long time ago, fact from fiction in the grow world, and have avoided all that bs, and saved a ton of $$. I've also been asked quite a few times on here and in "the real word" what I use to get my nugs so frosty. And when I tell them nothing but floranova and humic acid, usually they think I'm bullshitting or hiding something. This one guy pm'd me a few times and ended up calling me a greedy fucker for not telling him my "secret".

In their eyes both of those are snake oils and you're a noob.

I don't think that but there is no way in hell that UB will accept either of those. lol

Genetics are everything. You will never grow out a killer kush from ditch weed no matter what nutrients you use. This is a stupid thread. :) It's idiotic to think that you need special nutrients and it's just as silly to think that your cheap nutrients are better. It's the plant dummies..

hey uncle ben, but all of your plants are going to taste like nitrogen aren't they... :D .. btw, i have no clue what nitrogen tastes like ...
i have learned tons in the first 25 pages or of your gardening tweaks and pointers thread then i have in countless other threads on riu and many other grow forums ub, so i tend to take what you have to say to heart.. you should see the puzzled faces on people around here when i tell them to concentrate on growing happy, healthy leaves and not buds, they must think i'm crazy.. i try to point as many people who are willing to listen to a number of your threads.
anyhoo's, enough sucking up m8, just had to get that out.. my one question to you wuold be if you could recommend any one book to read to get a good grasp on how plants tick and how best to grow them, what would that be?? i just saw you recommend mel brooks book, is that still the one that you would suggest someone picking up and reading or is there something else m8??

thanks again ub for standing tall against the steady stream of bs and forum paradigms that seem to flood places like riu... :D

i think you're missing the point of this thread m8.. uncle ben in this thread is not mentioning one nutrient co over another, just saying that high pk levels are not needed for flowering like a lot of co's like to push.. how many bud boosters are on the shelves of your local hydro store? more then a few would be my guess..
and yes, i do think ub has proven time and again that cheap nutes can and do out perform $100 bottles of nirvana from andvanced nutrients.. i'm pretty sure ub prefers jacks classic, which is pretty darn cheap..

and of course you'll never get a kush from a bag seed, but even when growing proper genetics, there is a way to get the best out of them, shit, same thing could be said of bag seeds... you can grow it well or you can push tons of high pk valued bloom boosters on them and see what you get..

I hate to say this, but some of the best plants I have ever seen where grown using M.G. soil, and Mater Magic nutes from home depot.

I have seen more then my fair share of nice gardens done on M.G. and the like.....

As for myself I have tried alot of the snake oil, magic bullet, resin stimulators and etc.

I guess some help if your lacking in nutrition from somewhere or are not properly reading your plants.... but I have also noticed that they tended to almost hurt the performance of my base nutes, and cause more problems then good.

Now I use sea kelp, humic, mykos and CNS-17 and I could just run CNS-17 if I wanted and well my results are pretty nice.... this run I dropped cyrstal burst and snow storm ultra ( product I love/loved ) from my line up, my resin production ( same cuts, same genetics from the same mother ) alot alot alot more sugar then my previous cycle... and all other factors are the same.... :-/..... hum......

My next step making my own just add water mix with coco, and organics.... although the new Roots Organic Uprising powders have caught my fancy....

Otherwise maybe just back to Osomcote, M.G. or Mater Magic....

ON A SIDE NOTE:

CNS-17 ripe ( for weeks 4-8+ of bloom ) NPK 1-6-4

Open Seaseme by Fox Farm ( for weeks like 1-3 of bloom btw its a "booster" ): 0-55-40 or something insane like that.......

Plenty of other examples like this can be made clearly showing NPK numbers and the insanely high ones just for "bloom" are just marketing tactics directed toward people whom are otherwise viewed as having tons of disposable ill-gotten cash... i.e. "growers"

Almost like those in society who choose an iPhone (or any Apple product for that matter), as I said it really depends on an individuals own circumstances.

My 2 year old Samsung can do everything an iphone can!

Maybe I should start a thread titled, "So you noobs are hooked on Apple specfic technology devices."

Your base nutes can be almost anything. The magic is in the fine tuning.

Growers are always looking to blame something other than their own techniques. How you get your NPK is non of my business. Why is it anyone elses? 0-10-10 is the same as 0-20-20 at half strength. So numbers that appear shocking to regular joes like 0-55-40 do not seem so daunting when you look at them like they are supposed to be mixed.. 1/4 tsp per gallon.. so that's like 0-14-10... woopdee doo.. lol you get a shit load of use out of those bottles cause they make 100's of gallons.

Have you guys ever done anything else in your life? Have pets? Fish? Something?? can't you see how you treat different things differently? Each strain is different. You can't say that cause your chihuahua doesn't eat 5lb of meat a day that a bull mastiff can't.. and if you have a skinny little dog that makes you happy then fine. Be happy, why would you tell other dog owners how to feed their dog? Just seems a bit mental and self serving.

DO WHAT YOU LIKE!

Lighting a racket? Hmmm I use a 400hps , my mates using 600hps....his girl outdoes mine....my white widow is pretty sensitive to nutes so I guess its all relative....to genetics....i want a fat dog...

I buy UAN from a local feed store.

I do what I need to do to keep the plant green and healthy until the end, especially these pure sativas which easily have another 2 months to go but will surely be cut short by a freeze next month. Since you referred to taste the best bud I've tasted has been that which was not over fertilized in the first place. I've tried the blossom boosters and found that high P foods if over used not only induce a premature leaf drop but make the buds feel gritty upon drying.

Yep. Mel Frank is king. http://www.amazon.com/Marijuana-Growers-Insiders-Guide-Frank/dp/0929349008

I think you don't know UB very well..

This is nothing but a tool to elevate himself.
Pot calling kettle black comes to mind.

I'm the tool? You go around posing as some cannabis god, parroting and doing the cut/paste drills over and over, never showing a garden while I showed some of my current garden recently with the purpose of knocking down another typical cannabis paradigm.

For the 10th time, let's see your plants. Your posts suggests that you've never grown cannabis.

..... just like your little snake oil rant some believe if it's not a $500+ device it's of no use; see what I am getting at?
Got it, thanks for clearing that up. I referenced the same marketing racket regarding all the lighting products available at hydro stores. BUT, I never mentioned product names. My point of this whole thread is <cough> that I've been using a high N food from start to finish and am still getting a strong flowering response. Sure, it ties into the must-have bloom foods and additives starting week 2.57978 at 1/4 strength and then on week 3.6211 increase the dose to 1/2 strength until week 6.1234 using it at full strength. Success is then measured by the marijuana nerd who has plants with the least leaves and/or those remaining being a useless yellow.

Here's what I use only under a different name: http://everris.us.com/sites/default/files/e90171_.pdf
