so what is the deal with growing outside 12/12 from veg to finish?

12/12 is horrible for auto flower strains it will significantly reduce your yield.

I just finished an outdoor with 2 plants, ended up with over 16g dry weight, plus a little over 3g of iso hash from popcorn bud and trim, started out with light of only 5-6 hrs/ day for the first month and half, then just natural sun the rest of the grow until last couple weeks.

Really only 5-6 hours a day in the beginning? I thought they needed more hours of light when vegging?

Use any outdoor friendly photo period strain. I would recommend vegging them inside to the appropriate height and then moving them outside for flowering.
