So many threads so little answers! Help.

As of late I have decided I am going to start growing my own marijuana because I simply spend too much money on buying it from a dealer. However with all my research, yes I have learned a lot but no one ever really gives specific lists or detailed instructions and it has me quite confused. I've read all the noobie threads too but nothing is clearing it up. Basically to start off I will be only growing one or two plants in a small 3 foot wide 7 foot tall closet thing (in my dorm). I am trying have a complete and detailed shopping list before I go buy anything. I don't have tons of money so I have no room for errors. I want to get this right the first time. I'd ultimately like to find someone who wouldn't mind mentoring me via email or skype for the duration of my first grow but if you just want to post links from homedepot.com of specific things, that works too.

I guess my first question would be: I want to buy feminized seeds right? Once I get the seeds, can I plant them straight into the soil or do I need to let them open up in a moist paper towel? After I plant the seeds, do I let them all grow or do I need to be looking for males to take out?

Next I need the name of a good soil (brand name and type of soil) along with a good fertilizer and when to start using the fertilizer. Apparently some soils come with feed in them and some don't. Another question pertaining to this is: can I use the same soil/fertilizer the entire grow or is changing them essential? If so what do I start with and what/when do I change to something else? This has me VERY confused as to what I need to buy.

Lighting is a tricky one. I understand that I want a HID but what is all this ballast nonsense? Maybe find things on homedepot.com to show me what I need specifically. Also I'll need a good light cycle to use when I'm growing. I've heard 18 hours of light 6 dark and 12/12 during budding but I'd rather have someone tell me what to use.

As far as the plant itself, how do I tell that it has gone into vegetation and what key visuals should I be looking for through the duration of the entire grow? Also, can I start growing a plant at any time of the year or does it HAVE to be in June?

Those are my biggest questions right now. I'm sure I will have more as the time comes closer but these are the big ones. If someone wants to go the extra mile they can put together a whole DETAILED shopping list for me (I'll be shopping at Home Depot). If I had to put a number on it, I would say I am looking to spend around 450-600 dollars. Anyone who is available to mentor me and answer my questions for a couple minutes a day/week while I grow should send me a private message with your email or skype name. All help is much appreciated.

Thanks for your time folks.

hi there, ok yes you should buy feminized seeds and you are best to germinate them in a moist paper towel is speeds things up a bit.if you buy these then you wont get males.you should buy fox farms soil and fox farms grow and bloom nutes, tho you should'nt need the grow nute until min 4 weeks in and bloom nute 2 weeks or so into bloom.a ballast is the power pack for a hid light to fire the light up.time is your choice really but i would suggest 18/6 for veg and 12/12 for bloom of course.the plant will be in to veg state when it grows its second set of leafs or 2 weeks after it pops through the soil is when i count as the start of veg before that i call it seedling stage.growing inside you can grow any time of the year thats the best bit cos YOU are providing the light times.GL and i'll help as much as i can

Hey thanks for such a quick response! You said:

So four weeks after I plant the seed, I start using the grow feed and two weeks after it starts to bud, I switch from grow to bloom?

minimum 4 weeks yes and correct 2 weeks into bloom start bloom nutes.as it takes the plant a week to get used to the new time switch and induce into flower mode.we dont have a home depot where im from so i hope some one from the US can help with your list.hopefully with a bit of help and experience you will know your way around a grow in no time

Haha I understand what it sounds like but it isn't going to be there long enough to be noticeable. It will be moved to my new appt shortly after it gets 3-4 inches. I still can't PM RC7 so whenever I'm allowed to, I will hit you up. Same for you HotShot. Or you can PM me maybe? Idk.

Dude, I don't want to throw a monkey wrench in your plans, but don't forget about the smell while they're growing.
Good luck though, and keep reading! Don't be shy to ask questions :)

do yourself a favor and make your own mix. it's ez and you learn more about organics, which is the best way to grow anything. if you put everything into the soil initially, you don't have to add anything but a little top dressing later on:)

Still can't PM anyone. Don't know what the post limit is before I can message.

To the person who suggested the odor, I have indeed thought of that and have plans for it. Thanks for all the support folks.

You said you're growing in your dorm? As in a college dorm? That's not really a smart place to grow I once got a toaster confiscated back in my college days, they would have a field day with a MJ plant.

I'm not trying to put a damper on anyones' grow but with the questions I am reading :?: :?: :?:
You really should consider getting a book or spend a few months searching the threads for info. Jumping into expensive seed with no knowledge of what it takes to grow inside is a common error. Growing MJ under lights is neither cheap nor easy but anyone can do it. Just do yourself a favor and read all you can first.

Haha everyone is missing the point. The college dorm thing is just a temp house. I'd be moving out shortly after I plant the seed. Money isn't an issue either. I don't have a lot but I can spend 600 comfortably. I don't plan on buying anything for another couple months so to everyone saying I need to keep reading, I am. I'm trying to get specific ideas from successful growers to help guide me through my first go. I have too much going for me to get caught up by something as little as a room check. I still have plenty of reading, planning, and purchasing to do so rest assured.

Thanks again for the support folks
