well here are some pics and the make shift FC.
these are the 4 cakes that were good. i havent touched or seen the others since last thursday. i am gonna check this thursday for any difference or improvement then make a decision on them. would like to start a second batch.
these four have been 3 days in FC.
basically 1-1.5 inches of saturated perlite with cakes in small foam bowls. plastic wrap on top. temps are low 70s in basement as opposed to high 80s in attic.

this is a 24 hour update on the four god cakes i managed to get. albeit , i am still on a slower time scale than normal, i am letting them go as they are.
i posted pics yesterday and will post the same ones today to show comparison.
again this is 24 hours. i have "labeled" them left to right as 1 2 3 4.
the first two are yesterdays.
the next two will be 1 and 2 cakes with a flash.
then 3 and 4 cakes with a flash.
then 1 and 2 without flash followed by 3 and 4 without.

mushrooms have never treated me bad and always put a giant smile on my face for hours. i look stupid as hell grinning but feel fantastic i dont care.
just seeing them grow is getting that smile a running start. i love mushrooms.
i have never tripped , BUT when these are done i am definitely gonna take enuff to send me for a ride!!!!
will keep posting as they continue to grow....

You need to fan at least 4 times daily...and thats minimum. Every 12 hours or so just will not cut it. Pins love FAE (fresh air exchange) and contams(such as cobweb) hate it. After you do that you should get a better pinset.
I'd do no less then 1 fannin session every 1-2 hours; when you're awake of course.......i wouldn't set my alarm to go off every hour or 2 just to fan a FC
other then that, good grow

You need to fan at least 4 times daily...and thats minimum. Every 12 hours or so just will not cut it. Pins love FAE (fresh air exchange) and contams(such as cobweb) hate it. After you do that you should get a better pinset.

heres the routine.
i fanned at 7 tonight and moved from dark to light.
i will fan before i go to bed (midnight) and move from light to dark.
tomorrow at 8ish i will fan and leave dark until i get home at 6ish and fan again and give some light.

no sprign chicken to shrooms but i will be careful. normally only take 2 at most and i get to feel real good but no visuals or trips per say.
gonna try 3 or 4 and go for the ride.
and i gonna start 2 rows shortly. one of mary jane and tomorrow i gonna start the creeper shrooms.
oh, i check on the other jars and after a full week in 85+ temps in complete darkness there was no change. the jars are incomplete and they are still white. i may birth the best ones and see what happens

Oh and on the 85+ temps.......I've had much faster colonization at 75-81 temps. Mycelium growth actually slows at 86 degrees fahrenheit and drops off fairly quickly as you go higher(I've seen a couple graphs that i cant seem to find anywhere), and since colonizing mycelium gives of heat of its own(anywhere from 3-10 degrees) you dont really want to keep the jars that hot. But i mean if its working out for ya.....you should be fine.

any suggestions on the best time to harvest for maximum levels of the good stuff?
i have heard that earlier the better but how early? just before the caps open?
right after the caps open?
let caps open completely?
pick before caps even close to opening?
dont seem to have any aborts on the ones i took pictures of as they all seem to be growing still.
might have one with a little coloration on the stem kinda bluish.

early can be better.
harvesting earlier saves some nutrients for the next flush and harvesting before the viels break keeps the caps looking nice and clean, free of spores. the main reason growers pick them early is to avoid spores flying everywhere. black caps are less appealling to a customer than nice golden caps. and a bunch of spores on the top of a cake/casing can contaminate. it's hard describe how many spores you can get, i left my fruiting chamber cracked open, spores blew out and stained the wall.
there really isn't a potency vs. weight difference once dry. younger mushrooms have less water in them and dry to be denser. weight for weight (young vs. mature) potency is the same.

mmm looking tasty! about how long will these kept in the FC?
Next flush cover the tops of the cake or break it up in a pie tin and cover with a light dusting of sterlized potting soil, nothing that would be able to be colonized. It's called a casing and will promote more even pinning and growing. Than can be soaked overnight in the fridge for another round of flushing I have had luck enough to flush a log 5 times. Miond you the 3rd,4th and 5th time were way less but any more shrooms is good shrooms right.

got another update.
have one cap open and the rest are not far behind.
getting ready to set up a drying screen
also reading up on the re-casing technique.
AND i am sterilizing my next 10 jars for Creeper and B+(five each) as i type. will be done in 90 minutes.
of those that have been following, i took my best looking jar of the 6 that did not grow. it was not contaminated and had a good network of mycelium throughout. the other jars i tossed although they were not contaminated just dont have the room right now. that is another plan in the works.
i crumbled it down and placed it into a small square plastic container with a lid. covered that with wet verm and placed in dark warm drawer.
will see what happens.
anyhow heres some pics of the cambodians. oh i had to pic a few that were getting the proverbial black head to avoid rotting and contam. things look good still.
