So about leds

They seem to have come along way in the last 10 years, when I was growing back when its was all hid. I'd never consider leds as they weren't powerful and pretty expensive from what I remember. So anyway my question is what should I buy for my new grow? are leds equal to hids ?
Any help any info on the subject would be appreciated

Still plenty of crap on the market. But there are plenty of good ones too. They are still expensive in comparison to cost of setting up with HPS.

Some good companies to look at who frequent this forum and sell legit lights.

Horticultural lighting group
Timber grow lights
BcBlondes
Pacific lighting concepts
ChilLED
Cutter.au have their own lights called solskin which are great.

Probably a lot I haven't mentioned similar to above.

Don't overlook CMH lights either.

Maybe check out greengenes on youtube to see modern LEDs (specifically PLC) in action, I used to know a lot of others I could say check out but seems a lot of content and grow comparisons got removed a while back.

Can LED outperform HPS, yep, but its not for everyone, price tag and environment play a big part.
The man on a tight budget should stick to HPS as should the man in Alaska

p.s I dint go into DIY LED , though its very very common , didn't want to confuse the issue.

I use a Apollo 12 and a mars hydro sp-250. the mars imo is the best bang for $ considering warranty and service/quality.
The Apollo was a $1500 light. the mars 350. almost as good.

I have one gal that has the hardest time growing under full spectrum white based lighting. She's a SFV OF. I can't even grow her with my no-till mix under full spectrum white based lighting because she almost turns pure yellow, and the only way to stop her from turning pure yellow is add 15ml ca/mg, and 2 tsp epsom salt to my base per gallon of water, but that causes other problems so its not good. But as soon as i put her back under HPS, the green returns in a few days, and I don't need to use any ca/mg and only 1/4 tsp of epsom salt to keep her happy using my no till mix. And I also tried it using just pro mix with perlite, using salts, for example GH trio, 6ml micro, 12ml bloom, 5ml ca/mg, 1/2 tsp epsom salt is what usally keeps my SFV OG gal happy, and it did until the 2nd week of flower, then the yellowing started, and in a single week she got almost all yellow, but as soon as i put her back under HPS, the problem completely disappeared in like 3 days!

You're just another guy who does not exist according to many in the led section. Good truth!

What are the PAR numbers you are reading under each light? Seems like she is either getting too much light or not enough nutrition (nutes, CO2, or both) under the QB. They do put out significantly more PAR per Watt than HPS do.

I wonder if you made sure she was getting the same PAR under both of it would make a difference?
