Snowden a traitor?

It was reported today that Edward Snowden said in an interview with a Chinese newspaper, that the US had been spying on China for years, and then went into detail as to when and where this espionage occurred. I think now he has stepped over a line though, from being a US citizen concerned with infringements on the rights and privacy of fellow Americans, to being one of the most damaging individuals to our national security ever. What do think, good guy at heart and just stupid, or a traitor?

Good guy.

This data collection has global implications and Im pretty sure the worlds
citizens are pretty pissed off that this is happening and that more nations
are being implicated as being involved.

It's no surprise it is happening, just a piss off when it is confirmed.

They'll label him a traitor even though he's not, but it's a horrible double standard that let's politicians and the like leak classified info without consequence but anyone else will see their clearances revoked (career over), investigated, brought up on charges and potentially incarcerated or worse for exposing abuse and corruption... even if you're exonerated (of the usually bullshit charges), having your clearances revoked or suspended is a game changer, you become damaged goods and no one will hire you. You forego all the $$$ you can make in the private sector too...

These whistle-blowers give up everything to expose the abuses and their lives will be forever changed, the stress it puts on the individuals and their families is extraordinary; financially, emotionally & physically it wears them down and to be honest there's no benefit to these people to come forward.
The decisions these men and women have made have not been taken lightly and I applaud and respect them for standing up. Unless you've walked in their shoes, some judgement should be reserved.

Spying on China is nothing new every country spies on every other country, that's what most diplomatic posts are about same with military attachés, plus china can't talk with all the cyber attacks they're behind...

ABC news reports that Snowden flew to Hong Kong with 4 laptops, and senior intelligence officials are fearful of his defection to China, and believe that that is why Hong Kong was chosen. Pretty wild for a guy with a GED.

The end goal is for those in power to insure those not in power do not come to power. Identify key people in an organization which present a threat and remove them using the personal information obtained.

Would you like to see the NSA digging through the details of your candidate of choice and leaking them should he threaten their budget?

like bradley manning, he knew what he was doing, and he's going to have to lie in the bed he made now.

if the rumors about defecting to china or giving up espionage secrets are true, that does lower my opinion of him.

then again, his girlfriend does have a pole dancing blog on youtube.

and finally, i come to find out he's a pawlbot, so my opinion of him couldn't be any lower anyway.

This guy really seems to ENJOY fucking over the American government. He also sounds like someone that never got enough love as a child and wants the world to know what a superstar he is. I think it has more to do with ego, than it has to do with freedom for the masses. Why would he choose China of all places if he was concerned with the US infringing on the rights of it's citizens. You know what the funny thing is, that after China sucks him as dry as a Hunan whore could, they are just is going to turn him over to the US in a heartbeat for the sake of good relations. Stupid fuck

Hong Kong is a SAD, self governed for another 10+ years I believe the mandate says.

He can also hide there as a "political refugee" indefinately...

Don't believe the bullshit they're trying to smear him with, Hong Kong is (realistically speaking) the safest place on the entire planet for him and that's why he chose it.

It so obvious it's frightening, smear him as a traitor to distract the sheeple from the fact that they have every conversation ever had online stored in a warehouse somewhere.

I don't believe ego was the motive here. Of course LSM is going to try & smear him, as the gov't has no choice but to try & make an example of him. Can't have others thinking they could get away with this kind of shit. What if he had tried to release this to the American media instead of the BBC? We probably would've never heard about it. Dan Carlin's "common sense" podcast on the subject was pretty spot on as far as I'm concerned. http://traffic.libsyn.com/dancarlin/cswdcc55.mp3

The NSA's activities were completely unacceptable, the admin is responsible for all activities undertaken under them... Or should the "head Joo conspiracy bankers" be let off for screwing all the tax payers on sub-prime?

Unacceptable indeed. I think it's lame that the word traitor would even come up in the same conversation. Were there repercussions for the bankers, cause I thought their punishment was issued by way of bailout?

They didn't feel he was a security risk when he was granted a TOP SECRET clearance.... After the treatment assange is receiving, is there any wonder he fled to a chinese proxy?

Oh and PRO TIP - Taking laptops and more evidence to china to either trade with or use as insurance is called SELF PRESERVATION... A bargaining chip so he's got something to trade if china decide to trade him...

Imagine the Chinese were data mining to the same extent...the American's would have a full blown shit-fit at them.

America seems to be more and more becoming the "Do as I say, not as I do" nation.

How does one blow the whistle on our government without the risk of life in prison, or God forbid, the death penalty? I believe that when a citizen cannot reveal misdirections in their government, (without dire results to them),they no longer live in a democracy.

Oh that happened a long time ago.

And yes, this shit done by China to America would of started a war over night.
