DJ short smokes his males. What you are suggesting is only one step better than pollen chucking. Unless you are breeding for vigor, size, weight, height, pest resistance, etc. Have you ever wondered what the best smoke seem to usually grow on fucked up plants (low yeilding, tricky) that is because there is only so many traits you can breed for at one time. If you breed for quality enough generations in a row you'll likely get great smoke on funky not so easy to grow plants. If I wanted the healthiest or highest yeild that is very simple to breed for and you don't even need to smoke you females, just get out you scale and go. I intend to only breed for quality of smoke and when I have the smokeable traits I love locked down I will purchase someone elses high yeilding variety and make F1's. The male is equally important as far a quality goes. I've read alot on dog breeding and the rules are about the same but errors are more obvious because they result in vet bills instead of bad smoke.
As far as what I'm trying to breed, I have a bunch of OG kush and Diesel crosses that I want to work with first. They all have that really amazing flavor that makes me a kush fiend and they will hold there own with any Diesel or Kush I've been able to come across (I've spent alot of time in Colorado and the SF bay area puffin hard). I want to make 2 parallel lines and recross them later. I don't intend to sell seeds but wan't to know that I have a lifetime supply of the ganga I love. I intend to work on a berry strain also but not this time around.
If I don't like the quailty of the males I will probably make oil with them, I'll take a precise amount of plant matter so I can weigh and compare resin content and that should still make a tasty puff.
If I had the resources I would like to have location for just the boys so I could breed for nothing but quality males for a few generations. I imagine that if there was a few packs of seeds that guaranteed kick ass males as well as females they would be in high demand. I hate to give up strains because of space issues but sometime you have to. One of the hardest decisions is to find the right strains for backing up your old ones. I'm no expert but I'm well past playin.
