Smoke!

600w hps cool tube, wires from shade smoking a little, had to put old shade on but temps getting too high,any advice on fixing would be much appreciated

Thought it maybe an comen problem ?

For wires to smoke? Doesnt sound like a common problem. I wouldnt be using it, or would locate the problem immediately before continuing on using it.

My experience with wiring: As long as the 'magic smoke' stays in the wires it's all good. Once it gets out, BAD things happen.

Iv bought a new one now,like you say isn't worth the risk for the sake of £50!!
The spare reflector wasn't a cool tube so was sending the temps way to high
But for every problem you fix two more pop up lol
