Hey guys! its my 1st grow and im currently on 4th week of veg. I'm using a coco coir potting mix and my plants are currently around 5" (because i tried mainlining) now onto my current status, im growing at a 24 sqm room at an apartment building, top floor, corner. I have no windows close to neighbors and i keep my single window closed. Only issue is the door which is connected to the main hallway. Im trying to grow 4 plants with a desired final height of 36". 2 afghani 1 northern lights and 1 G13 Haze. i have no smell issues at the moment but im pretty sure im bound to hit them once i flip my ladies. Im trying to build a DIY carbon scrubber fitted on an 8" exhaust fan which would then be attatched to my grow closet. Would this be enough to clear the smell?

Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

My concern though is whenever i open my door wouldn't the smell diffuse out the hallway? I dont leave it open obviously but i was wondering if the smell strong enough to spread that quickly?

you could just get a window mount fan facing out to help get rid of some of the smell in the room if your neighbors windows aren't too close

You're in an apartment building. They'd have to be brain dead not to smell it once it starts taking off in flower stage. If it's illegal where you are, growing in an apartment building is about as close as you can get to just growing it in the lobby of your local police precinct.

Me myself I would buy a carbon filter least you know it will do the job and you will get a proper nights sleep with no smells rather than making ya own. I am not mocking your DIY skills I'm sure your more than capable of building your own. Like what r.i.kid said you get used to the smell until someone points it out to you and that is not good.

Carbon scrubbers are cheap now. By the time you build one, which may or may not be effective, you could have just bought it. I use a 6" iPower scrubber and it works flawlessly. Got it for $60 and has a reversible flange.

But in order for them to work, the grow room needs to be sealed and the scrubbed air vented out of that space. You can achieve this by using a tent or by maintaining negative pressure in your grow room via venting the scrubbed air out of the room.

Those plants WILL stink and you do get used to it. Sensory adaptation and all. The weird thing for me was I couldn't smell it much in my small grow room, but outside my window A/C unit, it reeked big time. Trust me, others will smell it without a proper scrubber and you won't get any sleep until that's fixed.

If you have the 8inch fan just spend the $35 on a good filter. If not you can spend under $100 on the whole set. (Fan and filter). Yes It will be necessary and yes it will work well

it's cause outside you get the fresh air....cleans out the sences...so when you get near the a.c. you can smell it...plus the filter will store up the smells

Yes, that and all those organic smelly molecules condense in the A/C when it dehumidifies. When it condenses, it gets concentrated and evaporates off the coils.

I've noticed my weed tends to stink a lot more outdoors too.

Growweedeasy somehwere has an article descibing a method of clearing a room or area of a room of odor thats really effective, i looked for it but couldnt find so ill do my best to describe it.

You take an exhaust fan, attach a scrubber on it and set the assembly upright, exhaust output facing up toward the ceiling.

Put that near your door and in a few minutes it should clear the immediate area of odor, clearing you to enter/exit risk free.

Again i havent done it myself. You can look for details on growweedeasy.
