Smartphones

What are they really worth? 500 bucks for a piece of plastic that you'll throw away in a couple years? No, sir......No phone will hold its value like one made with diamonds. I'll be ordering mine tomorrow. LINK

YOUR OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND how much more of a drone do you have to be to buy everything someone throws on the market.sorry dude but what ever happened to the good old days where people actually talked to eachother and there wasnt much but food water shelter and good smoke.

I got my iphone secondhand and my mother got hers free on contract. As someone with learning difficulties and organizational issues it has been a LITERAL lifesaver. I understand the argument about people not being able to do primary research/read a map etc without being reliant on technology and our throwaway society... I can do all that. I'm a traditionalist at heart but I am forever enamored with my iPhone 3gs. I've had it for nearly 3 years and I don't even feel the need to upgrade to the 4. I'll be happy with it for years to come. Perhaps the difference is I'm not interested in what's 'on trend' or new. I like my smartphone because I like using it not because it's fashionable. Then again I suppose not everybody thinks that way so your point is valid too x

Timely post, as I just made the move to a smartphone today. I also cancelled my land line, so my bill is ultimately cheaper including what I pay for the data plan. Made some changes with my internet and HDTV, which saved me even more money. I could be in the minority with those numbers, tho. No idea.

I'm all for phones. I just don't understand people that have always got to have the expensive "new phone". In the case with Kuroi, her phone provides assistance day to day. Most people just walk around, heads down, oblivious to the world.

I like my Dumbphone™. cn

Ive been a computer/tech lover all my life, i grew up on dos and windows 3.x, my droid x2 changed my life almost as profoundly as growing herb, i wouldn't be without it, i bought it new for 200, its replaced my tv, my laptop, my psp my camera and camcorder and every other piece of personal tech I own. Hold its value? My phone has more power than 8 of my last 10 computers. When i ipgrade to a new one in a couple more years ill load this one up with 10000 games and such and it will be a good tablet for my kids. Oh and its made of metal, still in mint condition after 8 months

i got my phone free by switching carriers and porting the number. most carriers have a convenient upgrade scam so you can keep getting new phones for free or cheap as long as you sign their stupid contract. i get unlimited data and texting for a price similar to what i used to pay for a regular flip phone.

combine that with the fact that there really is an app for everything and i see no reason not to have one. you can still ignore people, same as before, except now you can amuse yourself endlessly and get things done without actually doing anything.

i think facebook is the problem, not smartphones. knowing everybody's minute to minute business is what's beefing up the need to keep up with the jones', not the technology itself. ditch the twitbook and life just falls right back into place.

Very true. Makes me look at it a little different.

Is a 3G android considered a smartphone? I'm on mine now. The internet is faster than my stupid home comp. And I get everything unlimited for $50a month. The phone was on sale, with my old one as a trade in for $150 well worth it to me. But I don't know shit, this may not even be the phones your taking about... lol....but its my new favorite toy.
