i have about a 1.5' to grow from seed to bud and i was wandering what ways i could keep my plants small but still produce a good yield in only a couple months

top them so that they multi branch and then tie down the stems if they get too tall (and they will !)

how early can i top them?
If you only want them to get 18 " tall any time they get over 6 inches tall, I'd re top them again after a couple of nodes develop on the new shoots and start 12/12 real soon after (less than a week).
