Small bud problem

On my first grow. Two plants managed to survive my best efforts to kill them all. Both have dense growth, what I thought woud be beautiful colas. They're loaded with trichomes, as if somebody sprinkled them with sugar. They started getting lots of white pistils.

But I kept waiting and waiting for those pistils to grow and they just aint. They're starting to turn brown while the buds are just little barely noticeable little white spots.

I gave them Miracle Grow bloom formula on the right schedule and in the right amount, about 1/2 what the package directions said. They were an outdoor grow in a sunny spot until I had to bring them in mid September. They've been under a mix of natural light and broad spectrum fluorescents ever since.

Can anybody tell me why the buds aren't more impressive?

The only thing I've heard on this forum is the more light (12-12) the better, and HPS light is better for flowering. I'm no expert but I'd say you need more light on a 12hour-on, 12 hour off cycle! I may be wrong so don't quote me as I'm no expert.

Need to feed them something better then Miracle Grow. Try Fox Farm Grow Big (yes it does make a difference). What is the temp? Not in the room but right down at the plant level?

Agree with above about drainage.

You aren't getting any bigger buds because you are starving them for the light they need. If you want to do a job right you need the right tools. Get a HPS light at least 400 better 1000.

Get HPS lighting on them asap. Flouro's need to be about an inch away from the plant. Have you got pic's? How many weeks flower?

I seem to be having the same problem. My plant was started outside in the spring and had progressed very slowly. When it started getting cold I relocated the plant indoors and it is still very slow growing. There are buds trying to form but they seem to be very small, also the traditional 5 leaves are now sprouting as single leaves from the buds. I will be sending a pic as soon as I can locate my camera. To date I have tried the tomato fertilzer from Miracle grow along with transferring the plant to a larger container. The plant is currently getting 12 hours of light and dark....am I missing something here?

How much light you using? You want to be using as much as you can get, remember they've vegged in the sun and with artificial lighting the sun is a lot to compete with.

I was using a 120 watt gro light. I have talked to a few others in the forum and they had suggested to add some flourecents to help boost the light. I implemented that yesterday so I am hoping to see some difference.

I need to make something more clear. The plants are mostly under natural light. They sit outside in the sun at least 5 or 6 hours when its not raining and if the day sucks they sit in a window with natural light. They're only under fluorescents when I need to keep them in a windowless room like when somebody is visiting. Then the lights are really close, almost touching.

Sorry I don't have any pictures cause my camera won't take good enough closeups. But I'm now almost at harvest, about seven weeks since I first saw pistils. Pistils are turning brown.

What kills me is that these plants look great. Big swollen calyxes, sugary trichomes, thick growth in colas, just little tiny feeble buds.

Next year I hope I have an hps but even without it I just don't think these girls have been that light starved.

I guess I'll never use Miracle Grow again tho. I'll try that Fox Farm everybody talks about.

Mostly the temp is whatever the weather is. During October that's been like 60 degrees during the day and 40 at night, but sometimes higher. We had a lot of sun early in the month, but it's cloudy a lot now and getting cooler. Before that the temps were like 70 or 75 in the day and 50 at night.

Would it help this late to put a heater near the plants when they're indoors? Maybe it's just too late for these girls and I'll have to hope for better next year.
