Slugs

The area I'm growing in this season has a lot of slugs around. Some of the leafs on some of the plants appear to have little holes from being eaten so I'm assuming it's from them. What's the best way to get rid of these slugs or keep them away from my plants? Any feedback would be much appreciated, thanks.

Definitely verify which pest it is before you start investing in treatment. Beer traps work well but they attract them. Hunting them just after dark with a headllamp works really well. Roast a bowl and spend half an hour and you'll get many many slugs. Set the traps and come back in the morning.

Don't assume it's slugs. Slugs will leave little slimy trails, so if it is slugs, you should see some evidence other than just eaten leaves. I had some holes in a few leaves, and there were small green worms on the underside of the leaves. I am pretty sure the worms are caterpillars of some kind.

Make a little hole and place a bowl in the hole at ground level. Dump a beer in the bowl they crawl in get drunk and drown. Beer traps should be placed near the plants but not right next to the plants. The copper wire trick would work or crushed eggshell they don't like crawling over the eggshells.

copper, sluggo, beer, all good suggestions.

the one time i grew i an area with slugs, i broke up a few glass bottles into chards and put the chards of glass around the perimeter of the plant. they'll kill themselves trying to get over it.

Ive used crushed egg shells, wrapped the bottoms of the stems in copper wire, done the beer trick. Best thing thats worked for me is the slug killer pellets. Theres a few different ones that work.

I have been looking into this the past few days. The copper and the beer really don't work very well. A toad house seems to be the way to go. They do make electric barriers powered by a 9 volt.

Beer traps work. Use them in the veg garden. Shame those damn cabbage whites don't like boozing! whole crop of cabbage fucked.
