Slow/stunted growth. First dwc

I did side by side testing and waterfalls were far more robust and resistant to root issues than air stones.

You're welcome to disagree but having grown hundreds of pounds with both over hundreds of runs I can say unequivocally that waterfalls work better. The warmer water even helped my plants metabolise faster and grow better.

Your grow, your choice.
This is true 100% that the warmer you can run the water the better and faster the pants will grow up to a certain temp. I think the sweet zone would probably be a water temp between 73-76 but that's also the danger zone. I've been running RDWC since 2007 and have never gone without chillers. I have never tried your water fall method, I like to stick several air stones with each plant and keep the water at 68 degrees. I do have a nice waterfall on my return line in the controller bucket though along with another larger air stone. This method has yielded 2.25 lb plants in a 13 gallon bucket!

Go with what works.

I'm just telling you what worked for me.

I have to agree with Aquaman on this. Everything ttystikk said about air stones is completely inaccurate. Not saying that waterfalls don't work, just saying thats a lot of misinformation my friend.

Why defend a system that invites problems and costs extra while adding more points of failure?

Calmag _always_ goes first.
isn't that unless you're not adding silica?
I've always added silica firstly then micro grow bloom and whatever else after a ph readjustment, i never added cal-mag at the start of res setup (i use municipal tap) and would add the c/m later if needed.
sorry for digressing.

30 day veg, how much light and what strain are you running? If you're running some tired old cookie strain then you'll never have much yield. You need a strain with true vigor. You also need real light. I blast from every side, I run 600 watt HID lights because I feel like they can get closer and penetrate deeper without bleaching. For almost the same amps I can run two 600 watts instead of one 1000 watt and get much better coverage. I drop bulbs down the center of my grows without hoods and then put hoods over the top and on the sides.

One 600 watt over 4 RDWC plants? I have run as much as 11 600 watt lights over 8 RDWC plants. It just all depends on what you're looking for. For a long time it was pure production for me. Now days I've scaled it back but anything is possible with RDWC.

Just the one yes. And mine are single site not recirculating. I'll set that up on my next attempt at hydro.. along with trialling the waterfalls tty has mentioned.
I'm not cash cropping. It's all personal, but with a longer flowering time with the flash (up to 11 weeks and nl5haze I'm running next..11+ weeks) the more dry weight the merrier to keep me happy inbetween

Thanks for the replies..

It's been 10+ years since my last soil grow.. so this is trial and error with the jack flash.. I have some NL5xHaze seeds germinating to fish out a couple of good mothers. As apparently flowering nl5 from rooted clones is the way forward.

I have the fan inside attached to a filter and using it to push the air through into the roofspace. Plus was hoping to reduce noise.

The res temps are 68-70F
That's roughly 18-21c
Altho there really isn't much root porn in the pics! They spiral down 2ft to the bottom of the barrel.
So perhaps RO water is really needed.
The water out the tap untreated is 270ppm

My readings are 350ppm.. 700ec on the stick I use

(I've read I could use an aquarium conditioner for metals and chloramines in the water??,, thoughts?)

As for the leaf curling.. temps breached 30 degrees one day. due to an error setting a timer on the fan.. so that is my fault. The leaves weren't curling before.. that's a new ailment.

I'm unsure if nute strength is correct.. I thought I'd start of slow as recommended from what I've read.
And I also, am unsure how airstones will cause problems..
A link to these waterfalls set ups would be great.. as I've never heard of them..
Cheers guys
water level too high looks like you have the entire net pot under the water line. i personally dont like starting my plants in such a big res not thats its a problem to use a big one.

The water line was sorted a while ago :)
But in reference to the the big res.. i moved them over to make room for others

Edit..
And i really like using these big tubs tbh.. you really dont have to tamper with it. Ph remains stable and they can drink as much as they want and i dont have to touch it/top up for days

A quick update..
Day 39 from flip
800ppm
5.7ph
50%th
How am I looking this far in.. ??
20190613_132855.jpg

Still topping off with RO, using advanced M,G,B...
Do I knock the grow/(nitrogen) on the head soon?
How long should I keep adding calmag to the RO? Or should I knock that on the head soon too?..

Cheers
JG

hard to see much with the light in the photo but id say 4 weeks left if you want the bud to be full mature it might be longer

im still deciding how i like to deal with my nutrients but i feel normally up till the last week then just run ph adjusted water

i try to lightly feed my plant the entire grow till chop so i dont need to flush because i never over feed to start with. plus in hydro it a allot quicker. i think a week flush is good but some say its a waste of time and its all about the cure

I think you're about right. It is supposed to be a 10 week flower.. but has a lot of sativa in it's genetics so could possibly be longer.
I was wondering whether I could switch to the lucas formula using AN micro/bloom and if calmag was still needed if I did using ro.
I will deffo be curing for a month or so.. and wasn't planning on flushing..

Sadly No one will see the finished result of this jack flash. After a drunken argument, I left the house and the Mrs decided to do an early crop.
I could string her up I really could... I can't see a grow happening again very soon.. :-|
