Slow Grow

Hey, I'm a newbie to this forum and kinda a newbie to growing. I've read tons of stuff on growing here, and put a lot of it into effect, but I'm still having problems.

Right now I'm just starting off with a single plant to use as a mother, but i'm already about 8+ weeks through its it's tiny. It's about 14" tall but with only 5 or 6 sets of leaves and showing no signs of sex or anything. I've looked at a lot of plants the same age and they look huge in comparison.

I'm growing indoors with an unknown strain (i just picked some seeds from the weed I buy). It's in a big pot, with 3 18watt fluro lights and I decided to move it to a 12/12 lighting about a week ago. It's difficult to get nutrients here so I just go completely on water.

Basically is there anything I can do to speed up the process or anything I've screwed up along the way?

I would say the problem is your lights. 3 - 18 watt lights aren't going to get you very far. Are they compact flourecents?
You can pick up some pretty high watt cfls now at lowes or home depot. I got a 42 watt cfl for less than 9 bucks and they have 84 watt cfls available too. Also make sure you have a good reflector.

Seriously though I would recommend a hps for flowering and you can use it to veg as well. That will solve your problem.

Hope this helps - good luck

Ok, 5-6 sets of leaves and 14 inches in height at 2 months. For one plant 3 18watts should be fine. 54 watts on one plant should be sufficient as long as each bulbs lumens are decent. The only thing i can think of is the soil. especially after 2 months the soil might be dried up of nutrients and you only feed her water. That might be the problem. is the soil backyard dirt or store bought soil? Because when there is a lack of light i think you normally notice stretching. i wouldn't call 14 inches at 2 months strectching

light = growth and with 3 cfl's that's about what to expect in growth rate. now if you had a 1000 wtt light and that slow of growth then yes that would be a problem. get more light on your girl make her happy then in the end she will make you happy. good luck

It's just backyard dirt. Some of my friends have been saying that it could be the strain, because it is wild weed?!

I'm going to look at home depo today for some cfls and maybe a bag of potting dirt. How far away from the top of the plant should I hang the cfls?

I'd say it needs transplanted if the pot is small. A small pot will get a plant rootbound fast and it will be too choked for nutrients to get bigger. Your light is not ideal but it will work but it is probably part of the slow growth.

I have bought plenty of CFL's from Home Depot. They do 2 and 4 packs as well and you get a deal. I recommend staying away from pre-nuted dirt but some other people have said it works so I dunno. You might want to check for some all around fertilizer though. They sell stuff for potted house plants that still works even if it's not ideal.

edit: Also, the only thing I can think of that is "wild weed" is the ditchweed that grows in Nebraska and that area (I think). Obviously your seed came from some bud that smoked (I hope) since you bought it and smoked it and therefore it was not ditchweed and therefore not any type of "wild weed".

I've been trying to find out whats wrong, but still I can only think lights and maybe nutrients.

It's in a pretty big like 3-4gallon pot right now, which I've read should be fine. When I get back I'll post up some pictures to show you my scabby set up.

PS. It's in a room in South East Asia, so maybe humidity could be a problem?

Those fluro lights in the picture aren't the ones I'm actually using. I just moved the plant to take pictures because it's really difficult with the CFLs.

thai,my advice to you brother is get a few extra cfl's,also your strain of maijuana is also very sativa heavy i can tell by your leaves....get a couple (2) of 6500k=daylight bulbs and a few (3) 2700k=warm bulbs.....that will definitely hook you up....also since you said that its yard soil i would recommend buying and using miracle grow all purpose fertilizer...the liquid one and treating your plants with it by diluting 2 tablespoons in a gallon of water and giving it a heavy watering (make sure the plant is almost completely dry by picking up the pot-it should feel lite).also put the plant back on 24 hour lighting for about another 2 weeks or so while you treat her with the extra cfl's and fertilizer....also spray the underside of the leaves with the nutrient "solution",this should give her a boost....peace and dont hesitate to send me a private message with any questions

Hey, she's still going....slowly.

I now have 6 cfls on her and I'm using 17-26-5+1.5% nutrients, but the new sprouting leaves are all yellow?! Is this due to the nutrients or potentially overwatering?

PS. its finally starting to go into the flowering stage!!!
