Slackin on co2

Hey all I get the 20 lb tanks of co2 and they run out every 4 days. I'm pretty good at keeping up with it but every once and a whole there is a day or 2 they stay empty and it goes down to about 300-400 ppm is that going to affect it that much?

You have told us nothing about your grow.

A lot of people, the majority in fact, do not even use CO2.

I have a dwc setup in perfect conditions using 1000w and 600w. Lights and my co2 ppms go up to about 1400 ppm

Your going through 20 lbs tanks in 3 or 4 days? How big of an area you filling? 4x8 tents for me 20lbs tanks last almost the entire month at 1200-1500 ppms. Any area bigger you need to use a co2 generator of sorts. If your area is not kept in that 1200-1500 ppm you will see some drop off definitely but if its at lowest 300-400 ppm just for the day you ll be ok just not ideal. make sure you use it only in flower during lights on. No need in veg or in the dark as just a waste at those times. Temps need to be 80-85 for co2 use to be processed correctly. Get below 80 and your not getting great usage much above 85 same thing. Also make sure you still do normal air exchanges through the day. In flower I do 4 or 5 roughly every 2-3 hours for about 5 minutes in a 4x8 area.

two points perhaps you can enlighten me...first as plants photosynthesize in veg and flower why would you only enrich during flower only? second as plants give off o2 and the air is enriched back up to 1200ppm would that not constitute a closed system whereby air exchanges are not necessary? inquiring minds want to know.

I do not currently run CO2 but have read about it, and have planned on its future use in my gardening adventures. From my understanding for PROPER CO2 effectiveness you want a sealed room. Meaning unless you have an issue with temp or humidity then you should not be venting the grow area regularly. Venting the grow area when it is full of CO2 to start with does nothing for the plants. You want good air movement in the room still, and you obviously want to control temps and humidity as needed. This often means that a sealed room will have an exhaust hooked to a thermostat or humidity controller to kick on as needed.

My goal for my next room build is to reach this level of environmental control. Sealing my room, scrubbing the internal air to keep smell down and controlling temp and humidity with a/c, heat and a humidifier is nessecary. That will allow me to run CO2 to maximize the environment without wasting it by not having a sealed area.

I start co2 once I see 3 sets of leaves at 1200 ppm. Towards end of veg I go to 1500 ppm the rest of days except last two weeks for flush. I go through a 20 tank every 3 1/2 weeks with a 7x15 room. I scrub my room only when lights cut off. Before co2 my veg was avg. Now I use co2 in veg & it almost doubles growth. It is magical in bloom. Crazy big !!! But as far as not using it in veg, why even use it? Thats like saying your babies don't breath until bloom. well if u cannot afford an extra maybe $40 for veg time. To say it doesn't make enough difference is WRONG. I've seen the difference & it's worth it. Lot of people on here apparently either don't use it right or haven't used it at all & think they know because they read an article so they are an expert. Go out & getcha some experience. That my friend is the best teacher.
