Good job wiring it...now I'd reccomend extending the black and white wire that go to the socket. Also remove the glass and that metal thing, it takes away sooooo many lumens. Then inside by the bulb you will see two oval spots, pop them out and undo the screws. With the extension of those two wires and the removal of that top part by those screws you can easily put that light in a different position

take the glass and metal thing off..ull lose half the weight and allow for the bulb to get more air flow..even possibly get a fan to blow on the bulb to keep it cool...also i havent figured a way to make a reflector for them so if u do let me know

Check out my journal, I bought the same light and made a remote ballast and reflector for less than 30 bux.

ya that looks fucking amazing...anyway u can give me alittle bit more detail on how u wired it???the most details will help...i still got another 1 to put up so if i can get it too look like urs that would be great!!!

THIS IS THE LAST TIME I will post how to wire this light. Use your eyes/hands/feet/vagina/penis whatever to look through this thread because a few of us have posted countless times how to wire this up.

Ok on the econolight, when you remove the glass and shield (2 screws hold it on) you will see the socket. The round metal piece that the glass screws into also has 2 screws, removed those and the whole piece, socket included, should come off of the main metal housing. Have I lost you?

You should see two wires, white and black, from the main housing to the socket. I cut those in half, bought a 12ft extension cord (2 prong) and extended the white and black wires. I found this to be the easiest way to make this remote, I don't have to take anything else apart. Make sure to use electrical tape and wire caps. Next buy a 3 prong extension cord, strip the female end. You should have a white, black, and green wire.

The econolight has a white/ black/ and copper wire. Match colors up, and connect the green and copper wire (Ground) together as well. Tape and cap it up and walla you should have liftoff. Feel free to make your own reflector how you see fit.

ok wow ur a faget..i already have one wired up and hanging...i meant ur set up with the fucking reflector and remote shit...im not a dumbass sorry its pretty simple how to wire it to a 3 ended extension cord takes like 2 min... Use your eyes/hands/feet/vagina/penis to stop being such a bitch

I haven't had a smoke in 2 days and I woke up irritated, my apologies. You asked on how I wired it, I mistook that for wiring, not reflector.

To make the reflector I went to home depot and bought a $9 piece of aluminum from the heating and cooling dept, roughly 24"x48", I cut it down to the size I wanted, then using a 2x4 and a ruler I bent the metal to the shape I wanted, symmetrical as well, I then bought nuts and bolts, an L bracket (3INx3IN), I attached the L bracket to the metal, drilling holes and putting the nuts and bolts through, then I used nuts and bolts to attach the round metal piece to the L bracket, I drilled holes and attached hooks at the top, I painted the inside white with high temp white paint (grill paint).

Here are some pictures to make everything make sense, the white thing is just some random thing I found in the closet, maybe a shoe holder I have no idea, the fans were $3-5 at walmart on clearance, the dual fan next to the reflector sucks air and pushes it up to the fan which then sucks it into the attic.

I also added some updates of my girls.

I was just leaving some pics so that you guys have an idea of what I was doin. I just got some wire nuts and wired it up. I put some electrical tape around it and stuffed everything inside the fixture. Does this look good? Any fire hazard in having all these wires stuffed inside the fixture?

I also removed the glass to avoid losing lumens, but I kept the grill on so I can lay the HPS on its side. With a fan on the HPS, the grate that it is on doesn't seem to be having any problems. Does this seem like a good use of my light or do you guys have any other advice?

I added some pics to give you an idea of the setup.

I never even took the ballast portion apart, you didn't need to, mine gets really hot but i assume it should be ok.

just bought one to supplement my experimental hydro grow. i'm growing under a 250w MH and was going to flower under that too, but for 30 bucks i'll add the 150w HPS and get dual spectrum ! yay

just finished my stealth grow cab, go one of those 150w hps from econ light in there, its a pretty sick little light, the heat isnt that bad, but keeping the light in is a givnin me shit haha, i also did the remote ballast and i also took mine apart..it gets hot but not to hot to where i would worry bout it, check my sig for more pix of it.

haha rigged it from the box they sent me the HPS in, cardboard + mylar = reflector :grin:

all in all not a $40 150w HPS to add to my 250w MH for my first hydro. things are lookin good!

Sure, enjoy...

Cardboard isn't fireproof obviously and neither is mylar, but as long as the bulb is a few inches away from it and never falls or gets knocked over into contact with the cardboard he should be fine.

Lets hope everyone uses some common sense in their grows.

yea haha i know it's a few inches away and doesn't get hot enough to catch, i used a ton of tape so the mylar stays right where it should too. definitely kept that in mind while i was makin it sure as hell don't want to burn my house down

Man these things are super easy to wire and remote ballast. took me maybe 10 minutes i used a PC cable & a regular extension cord to remote ballast it. I gotta get to the hardware store and get some wire caps. This is one of the best threads on RIU once again oregon thanks man

Yes it is easy, you're welcome. Just an extension cord and wire nuts should have given all you needed, well other than reflector.

Did you also do a DIY reflector, those are real easy too if you just cut a batwing from a thin piece of metal or make a cheap cooltube from a candle chimney you can get at craft stores for around $5.

I did these same things with my 250w halides that I got free, they were industrial fixtures made for drop ceilings. Luckily I already had wire nuts and all the things I needed, even a couple extension cords that had been damaged in spots anyway so I didn't have to buy a thing. I still haven't gotten around to actually building a reflector yet, even though I have stuff for that too. I have a section of rigid metal 4" ducting that would be perfect for reflectors that was left over when they put in the washer and dryer outlets. Those are already split where the seam is and just open right up. Already curved just right, just have to cut to length and mount but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
