Sizing down Al B's perpetual SOG garden

I'm sure many of you have already seen Al B Fuct's thread " Get a harvest every 2 weeks". If not, check it out. It's awesome.

Anyway, I wanted to hear some opinions on sizing down his operation to a single 1,000 watt bulb.

My idea was to build five separate 2'x2' flood tables, each with it's own reservoir. One would be placed in the veg area under one 250 watt bulb and the other four would be arranged in a 4'x4' square under one 1,000 watt bulb.

The idea is to place rooted clones directly into a 12/12 light cycle and flower for 8 weeks, snipping lower growth in the 2nd or 3rd weeks, so that you end up with a small plant with one main cola bud. Each of the four tables in flowering would be planted in 2 week cycles, eventually resulting in harvesting one tray every 2 weeks.

Is this an efficient use of my 1,000 watt, or should I look into something else?
How many plants can I fit into a 2'x2' flood table?
How many mothers will I need to keep to produce enough clones?

Any other tips or opinions appreciated.

I bet you could jam 4 of these in under a 1000w and have over 50w per square foot. Those tubs work pretty well, I been using the large ones for flood trays for over a year now. Lowes makes a type with lil gutters on the bottom that a lot of people use, however the ABS is a bit more sturdy on the home depot type.

That sounds like a good idea but how about with2x400 watts or 2x600 watts

Those look like they'd work well. How many small plants do you think I could get in a 2x2 square? 9?

Already have a 1k, just looking to keep costs down.

The whole basis of his operation is having 4 lights on staggered flowering schedules. There's no good way to scale it down to just one flowering light. The plants near the end of harvest are going to dominate the light, which negates one of the big benefits of SOG (even canopy).

The only good way to scale it down and remain true to the system is to use 4 lower wattage lights for flowering.

he has 2x1000 watts not 4

His set up utilizes two 1k watters and to cover 36 square feet, my grow will use one 1k watt to cover 16 square feet, giving me about 62 watts per square foot. Due to the plants being grown relatively small and having much of the lower foliage removed I don't think lighting will be that much of an issue. I can always buy a cheap 400watt ballast kit to add if I need to, though. I'm mainly concerned about the number of plants I'll be able to fit into each 2x2 flood table

he isn't scared to run 4 plants a sq foot. Get fuct already =)
