Signs you have lost touch with.... the unknown

doesn't it usually refer to a zen or taoist concept?

in a non-formal sense, the way i look at it is that we all follow a "way" or path in life based on whatever we fixate on or dwell upon, whether we do so consciously or not. that has to do with the law of attraction, though. whatever we visualize comes into our life. some call it "the secret". thoughts become things.
I would like to add.. :) that the human brain has more than 80,000 thoughts a day.... we can not dwell on anything.. until we have a practice...before WE have a practie.. it is called a PATHOLOGY...

ONCE one establishes a practice and IS the practice... this "Secret" become irrelevant....

BUT this may also not true...

AND so.. anything other than the practice, is a distraction.. just candy for the brain... sleepy time

ANY conclusions.. are distractions...

it's not like that. meditation does not keep you from dying, nothing can do that

let go of the stereotypes and stay open minded for a sec

there are two types of truth one can know. relative truth, and the absolute truth. relative truth- the US flag has 13 stripes on it. this statement is indisputable if you apply the same assumptions as the person who stated it

this is "relative" truth because the US does not exist. the flag does not exist, the very idea of stripes does not exist

the only thing that exists (the "absolute" truth) is you. the real you.
enlightenment is seeing through the eyes of god. you do not wait till "death" to gain this amazing ability, you can do this any time.
infact, part of you is doing it right now, you just aren't paying attention

the tricky thing about the absolute truth is the fact that it is so pure it exists, not separate from, but beyond the realm of communication. one can only experience it in it's entirety. once it is explained to another person something is lost. even if you experience it and try to reflect on it, it is bastardized to some extent.
but it is so beautiful, we cannot help but speak of it at times. when we do speak of it, people's lives are changed

YOU are not your body, YOU are not your mind; these are simply reflections of THE WAY in which YOU move. the "real you" is awareness. you are the see-er, not what the see-er sees. this is what we all are

sitting meditation aids in removing interferences, but meditation can and should be practiced everywhere, all the time.

there is no afterlife because there is no death

meditation does not keep you from partying

i see what you're saying. I would look at this stuff more as a way to focus on the journey of life rather than a destination to reach. it presents one way to be during one's existence. i don't have anything on particular i practice, i just focus on trying to be compassionate toward others in life and on being happy- enjoy the ride, and along the way, show kindness to as many people as possible. i know if i get to the end of life and have tried to do that, it will have led me to many great experiences, whatever death brings.

it's just as much fact as anything else. more than, actually. the philosophy is based on the core of existence, it's the only absolute truth available. you know the whole brain in a vat thing? the fact that everything you know may be an illusion? the absolute truth transcends that.

enlightenment isn't so much about achieving a certain level of power, it's training to hold a certain clarity that most people fail to notice they even have. when training yourself to hold the clarity you feel it, it's not working to cash in on a promise that some crazy guy could have fabricated centuries ago.
some traditions do hold some type of belief in a reincarnation cycle, infact they aren't uncommon at all, but i think all that's just as goofy as the idea of heaven and hell. some of these traditions hold that if you live a certain way, you will eventually not have to be reincarnated and you will transcend to nirvana and live happily ever after. i'm not willing to bet on that.

way i figure, after we die, this life ends. the part of us that lives outside the realm of time continues on and allows other life to continue. so i kinda look at it like i will forget everything about this life and i will turn into a baby again. just a hunch, it seems balanced to me. it could have happened before i was born, and it doesn't restrict how i live my life now.

if you're thinking of more concretely, yeah, there are people living today that have achieved varying levels of enlightenment, it's guessed to be around <2% of the worlds population. i consider myself to be one of these people, i've had a few tastes of the ultimate truth and i hold a certain clarity when i interact with the world around me, but i've lacked the discipline to hold the it for a prolonged period of time. i'm more of a tourist in this realm, but there are others who live there on a daily basis.
you could say some of these people actually gain superpowers :)

they gain enormous sensitivity to human emotions, giving them enormous insight into the lives of others,
some gain great control over their physical body (increasing their body temperature, changing levels of perception, directing physical strength to do mind-blowing things, concentrating to release certain chemicals which effect their body is various ways),
many of them do lucid dreaming all the time, some can even hold consciousness in deep, dreamless sleep. full awareness, 24 hours a day.
and all of this has been witnessed and scientifically tested
